Well what he's done is say the US is not going to play fair in any future negotiation regarding a two state solution. How can you take Jerusalem from Palestinians? Makes no sense in theory or especially regarding diplomacy within the ME. It goes against all peace.

Welp, Trump did it....and it's arguably his worst policy decision since being elected IMO. Decades of work in the middle East burned to the ground.

But hey, at least Trump will have plenty of video footage of angry Muslims to tweet out.

No, but previous presidents from both parties made campaign promises to do this, and Congress passed a measure regarding this by a large margin, so it appears to have popular support from both sides.

It's a really bad idea...

It was a key point of contention between the Palestinians and the Israelis; and now, the US unilaterally sides with the Israelis. It's.. not just a bad look, but it's undermined our integrity as an honest broker for peace.

I wouldn't be surprised if this move was the casus belli for a new intifada.... and sadly, I think Trump and his advisers would expect the same, as would Netyanahu. It's a provocative move, and for no reason, and without anyone prompting the U.S. to do this.

Both sides of what?

Medium, no previous President ever came close to doing this. Congress passes meaningless resolutions all the time, knowing full well the resolutions are meaningless.

I think you might be misunderstanding what's going on and who the players are here. This has fuck all to do with Congress and their resolutions of support, that's a political game, it's theater..

I can't help but think this embassy move is meant to be a massive distraction. And what bothers me is that, this move will cost lives.. People are very likely going to die as this spirals out of control... Same thing could be said with the DPRK.

My concern is.. what would this President do.. how far would he go, just to control the news cycle and save his own administration?

There are just so. many. complicit Congressmen (and voters, alike). It's sad to see our democracy ripped apart at the seams and the powers that be are looking the other way.

I guess I don't see the point in passing things like that if that's not how they really feel. I don't think the GOP has any intention of being fair in these peace talks. They have an infatuation with Israel that I don't really understand. This decision seems like a very bad idea from what I've read.

Oh we are going to find out in 2018. I just hope we can hold out until the Dems take back Congress before he declares a preemptive war on North Korea to try to save things. I'm guessing Mueller indictments start coming in March/April.
