The unofficial Obamacare thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's exactly what the Democrats and a handful of Senate Republicans are doing by not supporting any of the reforms. They apparently prefer to keep it in its current unstable position instead.

The argument cuts both ways.

Democrats have repeatedly offered to 'reform' the ACA to fix problems that have manifested over time.

The political problem is that 'reform' does not mean 'replace' the ACA. This a Republican problem created by miscommunication of political messages to its base, which cannot now be undone.

Epic mistake, the chaotic effects of which will ultimately lead to that solution they most hate: Single Payer healthcare.

Gonna have to go thru this shitstorm first, tho. Didn't have to be like this, absent the irrational hatred of Obama.

It helps put pressure on moderate Republicans. Vote for a reform that loosens some of Obamacare's restrictions, gives people more choices, and (most importantly) transfers the financial obligations to the states over time...or let it all collapse, and take the blame for doing nothing.

Even here, you admit how you want the reins handed to extremists. The "moderates" are just saying what everyone else has. The bills proposed so far do nothing to improve health, they just save some money at the expense of the very most widely popular elements of the new law.

Please. What a joke. The GOP has been sabotaging Obamacare from the beginning and it's the Democrats fault? Thankfully, no one outside the Self-Delusion Zone of Right-Wing media believes any of that horse-shit for a minute.

Once again, you applaud the use of human suffering as political collateral. I don't think you should be celebrating just yet. Those premiums will go up just in time for Mid-Terms and people are going to know exactly who fucked them over. Smart Republicans are already scrambling to avoid the damage on this one. This just made a lot of conservatives single-issue voters.

Perhaps you should ask @cavman, or the others in the mental health thread, whose coverage my cease thanks to the EO, how glorious this move is for America.

Typical conservatives. Y'all get butt-hurt over the fucking flag and other symbols of the nation while continually ignoring that the nation is made up people; people you guys gleefully enjoy fucking over. The GOP: Party over People. Party over Country. Venality Forever.

Have you considered the human cost of this kind of politicking?

I have been drinking a lot tonight. So god I hope I'm hitting the right keys on my keyboard. I don't know what is going to happen with healthcare for me. That is sad when you think about it. I have felt cuts in medicaid before when I heard that it was not a big deal. I have felt what its like to know how many times you can piss per day based on how many catheters you can get per day. I have been told that your cath that you have been using is no longer covered and you need to find a new one even though that cath was the one that fit your meatus perfectly and the new ones rip your new surgically created pee hole in your stomach to shreds causing infection and hospital stays for IV antibiotics because they have become resistant to any pill that is out there.

I have given my life to the advancement of spina bifida research. From surgeries, to mental heath. I have been through procedures and tests that help in making sure, god forbid, any of your children that may suffer from my disability have a fighting chance to compete in your world. I do and always will feel left out of american dream, and that makes me want to die, because I do feel we are so much better than we act.

Surely, however, it must be of great comfort that the GOP will now gain leverage, no?

I fully expect over the next few years for things to get bad for myself. That is ok I'll take the hit, because the war is swinging to the side of the children behind me. I would imagine it is very hard to see my view of healthcare from a perch of healthiness, but people have children, nephews, nieces, and friends in my shoes and it can't go on for much longer until we have the support to remove this burden from everyday life.

I for some reason thought maybe they all would come up with a solution that just works for all, but I can see now there is only one way moving forward, and that is universal care for everyone. This president has opened my eyes, not even obama was able to do that.

People love to play games. Until it happens to them.

Then they change their tunes real quick. I have quite a few friends who voted for Trump that are now very afraid of the future. It took a looming disaster to their own lives to see what is going on. Why it always has to come to that I don't know...

Yes, the Democrats have repeatedly "offered" to vote for pouring billions more into an entitlement program most Republicans didn't want in the first place. Thanks, but no.

Republicans have no more obligation to pass legislation strengthening ACA than the Democrats do to pass legislation repealing it.

I've considered the human costs of preserving the ACA, at an event greater cost, and don't believe they are worth it. It has driven up costs for a lot of people to the point where they have insurance, but cannot afford actual health care.

I didn't think it was a good bill when it was passed in 2010, so I'm not inclined to preserve it by pouring even more money into something I think will have a progressively worse impact over time.

It's not your problem until it is. That is the country we live in. It's so strange to say it. I can't even think about living in a world where I don't think about how other people are affected. Even when it comes to healthcare I think of healthy people and how their lives might change under a universal system. But I don't see the same offered to people like myself. All I ever hear when I bring up people born with disabilities is, Oh I don't mind paying for people like you. But then they will vote for shit that will directly effect me.

Really at the end of the day I don't want you to pay for me, I want you to take the burden off of my shoulders so I can be free to have a job and get the care I need if the call should arise.

Obamacare was bad legislation from the beginning imo. That is the problem.
It hasn't 'developed a few problems over time'. It dosen't need just need a few tweaks. It has not been sabotaged. It was a bad partisan bill passed in a bad partisan way.
Neither party has been able to improve our healthcare system which has been a mess for decades.
Pre-Obama healthcare was a mess. Obama healthcare was a mess. Post-Obama healthcare is a mess.
Dems haven't improved healthcare. The GOP hasn't improved healthcare. Both parties have been in power and been unable to give us a good system. Blame both or blame neither.
Anyone who is blaming one party for the mess is playing party politics imo.

Text book sunk-cost fallacy.
