We'll likely have plenty of Bennett vs Oladipo vs Waiters talk this year. This should be a good spot for it.

Let's start with something that isn't controversial at all.:gap:

Rookie guard Victor Oladipo may have inadvertently fanned some rivalry flames Thursday night with a remark he made about the Cleveland Cavaliers. At an exclusive event for Orlando Magic season ticket-holders, the Indiana product said, "I really didn't want to go to Cleveland." The Cavaliers used the first pick in the 2013 NBA Draft to select UNLV forward Anthony Bennett, leaving Oladipo available for Orlando general manager Rob Hennigan to select with the second pick.

To his credit, Oladipo quickly took to Twitter himself to explain the remark: "Sorry to all the cavs fan if I offended them in anyway making the comment I made I didn't mean it the way you all took it," he wrote. David Steele, the Magic's television play-by-play announcer, said Oladipo's comment "was harmless banter."

Orlando's first regular-season game against the Cavaliers is set for December 13th at Amway Center. Oladipo makes his first professional visit to Cleveland on January 2nd. One gets the impression that the Cavalier faithful will not extend to him a warm welcome.

Re: The Victor Oladipo Tread

I can see why he said that. If he's a pg then he will have to compete with Irving for a starting job which he would lose. If he's a sg then he has to compete vs Waiters. Orlando is a better fit for him. I dont think it was a slam vs the Cavs.

He obviously just meant that we already have two good guards, no big deal.

Right. If anything, it's a testament to the respect our young backcourt is garnering around the league.

Oladipo is not a PG.

For the near term, it's probably better for the Cavs and Oladipo that they went in different directions.

Jarrett Jack fills the guard rotation better for the Cavs with more vet experience, proven 3pt shooting, more immediate point guard skills, and it didn't cost a draft pick to get him.

Oladipo on the other hand gets a lot of minutes, fewer expectations, and a chance to experiment with different roles on the team.

Long term, my opinion is that the Cavs did the right thing by passing on Oladipo. Even though Oladipo improved every year at school, he was a 21 year old that didn't posses an outstanding skill level on draft night. That's a big red flag. It's not insurmountable, but it's a concern. I'm glad he ended up in a spot where he can continue to grow (his skill set), but the kid isn't going to succeed in the NBA unless he's able to keep growing his skill set. Seems like that would be less likely to happen if he was in Cleveland.

As one of Oladipos most ardent supporters i must say. Screw this guy he can rot. Little pussy boy afraid of little competition,

I hope him and joanas run into each other on the court and knock each others teeth out.

Then vic wont even be able to pronounce his own name

TORN THROWING DOWN THE HAMMER!

Funny how a guy who "hates to lose" preferred to get drafted by a worse team...

Says the Cavaliers fan....

While it is relevant to look at the team today, you could also consider that Orlando has a better history of winning than the Cavaliers despite the Cavs being around for twice as long.

Granted as it turned out, their success was mostly due to good draft picks after poor seasons.

Don't want to speak for him, but I'm pretty sure he meant that the Cavs literally had a better record last year, and by just about everyone are predicted to be the better team this upcoming year. But our higher win total was marginal last year anyway.

Yeah I was really just pointing out how our team is on the rise and the Magic are on a downward spiral. Wasn't making any references to all-time winning % or anything.
