The Victor Oladipo Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oladipo has been struggling the last 3 games. If he was in Cleveland he would be getting crucified right now and people would be asking why we didnt draft Bennett.

Still hit more field goals tonight than Bennett has this whole season :chuckles:

Why didn't we draft the guy shooting 1 for 20 and being an absolute non-factor? I doubt it.

Bennett could very well have been putting up ridiculous stats on a team where he was being given starter minutes. We just don't know.

Another great game tonight, 18 points 5 assists and 3 rebounds, 2 steals on 7-11 shooting....his game is improving every week....

He's a stud and was always going to be.

Proud to say I've been on the Dipo train since his soph year. With that said, I was on board with him being a defensive stopper his soph year and did not expect him to develop into what he was as a junior. Once I started watching his games, it became clear to me that he'd be what he is.

Can't take too much credit, because I was dead ass wrong on Austin Rivers when I was making predictions on him.

Would have helped our team this season so much more than Bennett will even next year. His defense and energy is phenomenal, and would have fit nicely in our 3 guard lineup that MB loves so much.

Meh...

His defense has the potential to be elite but we've drafted enough guys with lottery picks citing energy as one of their main skills (by enough I mean 1)

Defensive wings are easy to get. Stretch 4's are not. I still take Bennett over Oladipo. Even if it takes all season for him to start showing that.

Defensive wings are easy to get.

Is he really a defensive wing though? His offense (and particularly his shot) looked worlds better than I had thought they would.

His stats read almost identical to Dion right now, so can you really just chalk him up to being a "defensive wing"?

I hated everyone in this draft so unlike with Drummond I won't cast stones about this draft, but I think by this time next year we are going to really wish we had taken Dipo as he continues to develop. If anyone was ever cut from central casting to be a Mike Brown guy I think it might be Victor Oladipo.

He's not a PG, and he is given the entire perimeter to get himself going on offense (Vaughn puts Afflalo in the post alot and the PG's Orlando has, both Nelson and Moore, are content to give Oladipo the ball and let him cook when he wants it)

He can finish pretty damn well but other than that, yes, I am sticking by him being a potentially game changing defensive wing who can score well in transition for now. On any other team, he would be off the ball much more than he is now and he would struggle even more than he does trying to create for himself.

Im not comparing him to Dion. Dion plays like a combo-PG and Oladipo is a SG.

As he grows up, maybe he will be much better in the half court. He's getting the same crash course with the ball in his hands that Wade got in Miami but Im not as impressed by his ball handling and ability to create his own shot in half court. I think he will be good, for sure, and I've watched some games (that Philly game recently) where I felt he is going to be an All Star in the next 3-4 years, but I still think Bennett fills a greater need and is less accessible once he is invested in like Orlando has done Oladipo up until now.

Oladipo is a SG.

That I can agree on.

In many ways he is actually the kind of SG I wanted the Cavs to get for Kyrie to play with as he will be a lock down defender, and I think his shooting will continue to improve enough where guys won't be able to just forget he's out there.

He just strikes me as a guy that people's perceptions of what he was at Indiana are clouding the fact that he is doing more offensively at the NBA level than had been anticipated.

I will give you that.

I watched him a little too much the last two years, to reverse all of the limitations I put on him coming in after just a OK month of basketball on a bigger court with less talent next to him as a unit than he had at Indiana. And maybe the word "limitations" is wrong to use for him. MOreso, I should say defensive wing is his strength, not his limitation. As he grows in this league he definitely wont be a liability per sei... but I dont see myself considering him a guy you can just give the ball to and let him get you buckets. I think Bennett will be that at a position where the skillset will be invaluable, once he gets there.

By the end of the year, my tune may switch up a bit on Oladipo, but I still see him as a defensive first kind of wing for now.
