The Victor Oladipo Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's amazing how many people can't grasp this.

What's perhaps even more interesting is that, if given the choice on draft night, most people on this board probably would have taken McLemore over Oladipo. Where's the Ben McLemore thread? Funny how that works out. The same is true of Dion's draft. Pretty sure that, on draft night, a majority of the people here would have taken Robinson or Barnes before they took Drummond, and yet we don't see people pining for either day in and day out on here now.

I actually think more around here preferred Oladipo to McLemore by draft night, but I agree with this sentiment. It seems that many are quick to forget that there was a time in the pre-draft process during which the popular player comparisons were Larry Johnson for Anthony Bennett and slightly-better-on-offense Tony Allen for Oladipo. While Oladipo has already shown he will probably surpass those expectations offensively, there were certainly major doubts that he would.

There was almost no one on this board interested in Robinson as we took a PF the year before. That would have been a redundant pick.

Barnes had a small following on the board, but many were concerned about his ability to put the ball on the floor.

Drummond did have the biggest following of the 3 you mentioned on this board on that night.

I'm not sold on Bennett as a superstar or a bust. Oladipo looks damn good, and here in the early parts of the year, it looks like it'll be him and Carter-Williams duking it out for ROY (I'd give the nod to Oladipo). Honestly, we were surprised by the Tristan Thompson pick (I see it as a boom). We were surprised by the Waiters pick (Not certain, but leaning towards boom). Give him a chance.

Problem with the Cavs, for the first time since 09-10, is NOT lack of talent. It's lack of consistency. I thought they looked like a top 4 seed in the East with the way they played opening night v. Brooklyn. They just can't seem to get consistent play from their big contributers in Waiters, Jack, and even Irving. Miles and Thompson have gotten off to great starts. If this team can figure it out and get some consistency, look out!

There most definitely was people wanting Robinson. A lot in fact. Tristan was considered a bust by tons on here at the time and many brushed him aside as a big coming off the bench at best. Kind of like what's happening with Dion now.

Did you see my post in the DIon thread? Until post 206 no one suggested drafting Drummond straight up. Before that post where someone wanted Drummond instead, Drummond was always listed third as in Robinson, Barnes, then Drummond. Your view is complete revisionist history.

Oladipo seemed like a perfect fit for a Mike Brown system, hard-working, explosive defender with serious upside on offense as well... Anthony Bennett doesn't really seem to be a Mike Brown kind of player IMHO, but it's still early.....

Cavatt, that might have been true in THAT thread. But, it wasn't true for other older threads. I had posted pre-draft that I wanted Drummond second behind Davis. I posted that we had an opportunity that would not normally be there with any pick but the first pick had Andre not had a lack luster freshman year. I wanted nothing to do with Robinson, as I felt that his numbers were primarily due to being a Junior, and wouldn't translate as well as some others thought here. There were quite a few Robinson lovers on this board. As you post shows, Jon was not interested in Robinson. He was also not interested in him BEFORE the draft.

HE doesn't seem that way, but MB has already said that he is stronger and a better defender than he thought he would be.

Well, before that class had played any college games a lot of people thought Drummond would go #1 overall. That changed considerably during the course of the college season. People were scared to take him, and I think it was the reason people wanted to get Beal or MKG so bad. They didn't want the choice among Barnes, Robinson, and Drummond. I am just pointing out that very few people lamented not taking Drummond until he started looking like an NBA player. At the time of the draft people thought he might be another Biyombo. So raw, you have no idea what you were going to get.

I honestly wanted Drummond. I really liked Oladipo too. I wanted him more than Bennet for sure. I thought we were going to take a Center the past 3 drafts. I have the same reservations as everyone, but I will not stand for it when people act like it was the consensus pick. It wasn't, and the other GM's in the league proved it. As for Oladipo, Simmons would have been just as shocked if we had taken Oladipo, because neither 2 or 4 seemed like a position of need for us at the draft. Everyone expected Noel or Len.

I was a complete whore for Oladipo before the draft. I still love him to death, I love what he brings to the table. I'm afraid of what we let get away. It makes me sad every day, and that has no bearing on Bennett - who I'm concerned about, but hope he can pan out over time. Bigs take longer to develop in general.

I really like Dion though and I am hoping and praying that Dion continues to improve much in the same way that Tristan did. If Dion can start finishing at the rim, I think he will be a 20 point per night player. His defense is already much improved. He could be our Oladipo if he puts his mind to it.

I just didn't think that having Dion meant we couldn't take Oladipo, much like Tristan hasn't stopped us from taking Bennett.

Oladipo has been struggling the last 3 games. If he was in Cleveland he would be getting crucified right now and people would be asking why we didnt draft Bennett.

Why didn't we draft the guy shooting 1 for 20 and being an absolute non-factor? I doubt it.

Negative. Might be asking why we didn't draft someone else, but it wouldn't be Bennett.
