The Victor Oladipo Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's fine to talk about Oladipo, but, according to wuck's poll, only a very small handful of people really have a right to bitch about it, and really they should only be bitching after a couple of years at least since players take so long to develop. Otherwise, anyone saying we should have drafted him are just history revisionists.

I'll admit I didn't really want Oladipo. I remember debating with someone a ton (platinum or something?). He was really high on Oladipo. At the time I had a few concerns:

How could we draft a SG who couldn't shoot given we already had a SF Gee and a PF Thompson and C Varejao who couldn't shoot well. If I had known Thompson would look this good, I would have been higher on Oladipo.

We already just drafted Dion. Seemed silly to trade or bench a guy we just took for a guy who was even more unproven.

I was wary given the MKG comparisons. I love MKG, but I sort of viewed Oladipo as a smaller version of him which wasn't exactly ideal.

All in all, I'm still happy with Bennett. Besides, I'm really high on Karasev and think he would be a tremendous fit with Kyrie, Jack etc.

Props go to TyGuy.

You were the main guy in trying to sell me on reevaluating Oladipo way back at the end of last season. Way before we got the #1 pick.

I didnt want him and still think Bennett at his full potential is more valuable, but damn kid looks legit early on.

Superior, and especially elite wings usually don't take that long to develop.

You probably don't need to see more than the next year or so to have a decent idea of who will be better between him and Waiters.

After that watching that highlight video I'll now have nightmares about Victor Oooooollaaaaaadiiipppooooooooo.

But seriously, he looks good. Westbrook like imo.

Westbrook probably isn't a bad comparison. The better comparison is who people want Dion to be, and that's Wade.

His rookie year Wade was running the point too and you're right. He does remind me of watching a freshman year Wade. That year he had Odom and Butler both handling point forward duties too and his biggest strength was guarding opposing teams point guards and then overpowering them on the offensive side, just like Oladipo is doing.

Good comparison

They also have a lot of the same physical gifts and shared the same college coach(Dwyane Wade). Although i think Oladipo is actually a superior athlete, but not quite as long and a tad shorter as it turns out. The Westbrook comparison to me was their scoring prowess in college (or lack there of) and how they took their games to the next level at the pros, or in Oladipo's case, how he looks to take his game to the next level. If you looked at Westbrook's college scoring numbers there is no way you would guess he would go on to be a 20 point per game scorer.

Oladipo is also slightly younger than Dion so theres that. Love the athleticism and length of this kid. Has a very good personality, too.

THIS, usually great wings that don't break out early are often held back because the lack of minutes they were receiving. Well, Dion was receiving 30+ from the get go and i'm just not seeing it. This isn't to Dion can't develop into a pretty good wing player, but I think their is virtually no chance that he becomes elite.

The kid is crazy explosive and a stat sheet stuffer.

Watching him out there he also seems like a great guy to have around on the team. Seems real positive and a hard worker with a good attitude.

I didn't really want anyone from that draft truth be told and am fine with Bennett as I think he will end up OK, but Oladipo seems like one of those glue guys that is going to drive opposing teams nuts because he is everywhere.

Realistically he just wasn't an option for this team so I never considered him, as he isn't a 3 and we already had Dion. If he were taller we could have maybe taken Oladipo and slid Dion over to the 3, but that was just not realistic as we need size at that position.

It's a bummer though because he seems like a Mike Brown guy.

Oladipo is making cp3 his bitch in the early going

Between Dipo, vucovic, Harris, harkless the magic have one of if not the best young core

Yeah, Oladipo is looking pretty damn good right now. Bennett better get his shit together soon or people are going to be coming for Chris Grant's head.
