Theoretically Ante Zizic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Because JR’s value is set at this point in his career, and he wasn’t 100%. And it’s more important that we build Rodney’s trade value.

Well, that brings up the other issue - the assumption that playing someone increases their value.

Playing only builds someone's value if they over-perform expectations. If they play as expected, their value is basically unaffected. If they play worse than expected, their value actually goes down.

I don't think playing TT, Hood, or JR has increased any of their value. In fact, it may have dropped for all three.

Are we seriously comparing Zizic to Marc Gasol in here? I gotta go then lol. Gasol can hit a shot from anywhere, always has good ball control, and always in the right spot defensively. I think Zizic can be good but not that good.

Comparing Zizic to 21-year-old Marc Gasol, to be clear.

When Marc Gasol was 21 he was more out of shape than Zizic, and he was posting averages of 10.6 points, 5.5 boards, 1.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game in the Spanish ACB League. Then over the course of the next several years he got his ass in shape, he worked tirelessly on his jumpshot, the floor opened up for him and his naturally high basketball IQ began to shine through.

I don't know if Zizic has the potential to make that kind of meteoric improvement...but I know that Marc wouldn't have improved like that either if his coaches never believed in him and gave him the chance.

Ante is still super effective on offense, even though all he's being given to do is set screens. It's still painful to see him getting 0 post-up opportunities in the few minutes he does play.

I just don't know what the point in bringing up Gasol is. For every Gasol out there that drastically improved, there are 20 never-was big men that flamed out of the league. Bringing up outliers to the rule only serves to set unrealistic expectations.

Ante has some game and potential. But the fact is that he's the type of player that has been all but eliminated from the modern NBA game. What's his realistic CEILING? Kanter? Gortat? Nurkic? Maybe Jonas if Ante can extend his range? All of those kinds of players get run off the court in small ball lineups.

I would love to be wrong, but I just don't see him being an impact player.

Any of those players are also vastly superior to TT .
The only thing people are asking for is for Ante to get consistent minutes. We're already losing playing TT, what's the harm in playing Ante and seeing what we have?

I brought up the comparison as a counterpoint to the argument that we shouldn't bother with Zizic because he's doomed to be a plodding dinosaur big. Maybe he'll be a plodding dinosaur big, but there's also a chance he'll develop into a really good player. Needless to say, we should do everything we can to maximize the chances that he develops into a good player, and that means giving him non-garbage minutes and a real role on this team.

Oh I certainly don't disagree with that sentiment.

Lue also blamed the Pacers 65% shooting on trying to defend the three point line allowing them to get to the rim with no rim protection on our side. But it never occurred to him to give Zizic some burn?

I'm thinking Drew isn't playing Ante much yet out of some kind of respect for Lue. There's some warped logic for you.

I'm thinking it was probably more to do with how well TT was playing. He had a number of good defensive possessions and was dominating the glass. Zizic might of actually stopped the Len dunkline in the third quarter though

I just want to see what he can do with some extended minutes.
Cmon Larry, give the man 5 games in a row of 20+ mins and reassess from there if you must.
