Theoretically Ante Zizic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Might play a couple minutes of non garbage time tonight with K Love injured

Nope. JR Smith at the 4.

The funniest part is how true this is.

Last night, they were running a:

Sexton
Clarkson
Smith
Korver
Nance;

lineup for large stretches.

All you can do is laugh and just roll with it. What else can we do? :encouragement:

It'll either be the above lineup again, or Sam Dekker in there. Meanwhile, Channing and Z are watching court side with Nwaba wondering how Rodney Hood is in the rotation with every dribble into a floater/midrange shot.

-------

Z should see time tonight. Actual time and not garbage minutes (the difference between the two is starting to blur). But I really don't know. There will come a point in the season (looking like sooner rather than later) where Zizic will be a part of the rotation, even if only by process of elimination. That's my hope.

Gonna be quite the season! Remember, keep your eye on the flashes, roll with the punches, embrace the mistakes, witness the vet's mounting frustration, cheer the upsets, and poster the highlights. We're all just along for the ride.

Zizoc isn't a rim protector and he really struggles to move his feet on defense. As great as he is filling the Enes Kanter type role on a team, those limitations mean he will be a seive defensively without the right players around him.

Sure....

Tristan is worse defensively at this point. He is getting shit on that end and he doesn't have the offense to balance it out.

And I don't see a problem with Ante's ability to move his feet. His issue is lack of communication and over helping on drives. Things I also contribute to coaching and lack of good ball handler defense and poor defensive rotations. But if you want to be critical it's his over help and inability to recover quickly enough when he is caught out of position(when he helps on drives).

I have seen him contest shots better than TT.

Help defense is the primary way to defend a guy on this team. Let the helper do it

Nothing you’ve said about Zizic here is wrong. I actually don’t think his ceiling is that high either, but wouldn’t we still rather see the 21 year old who clearly has SOME potential to develop as an offensive player and rebounder (Enes Kanter is a fine comparison really) than the 27 year old that has clearly plateaued.

At some point don’t Lue and Gilbert have to accept that this is the worst team in the league and force feeding veterans with no future minutes is actively harming the organization?

I get that it’s a delicate situation, specifically around JR and Tristan given the fact they both started for a title winner three years ago, but this is still a business.

Lue having a soft spot for guys who were relatively effective in dramatically different roles three years ago is just not acceptable for the 2018-2019 season.

I think that's just who Lue is, and he will not bench those guys absent a direct order from Dan, and maybe not even then. I believe it will become increasingly evident that Lue simply cannot adapt, and that he will not finish the season as the head coach of the team.

Everyone likes to point to Kanter, and that's fine, but I'd like to point out that Marc Gasol at age 21 was arguably not a better player than Zizic today in any way. But he worked so hard on his game in the subsequent years that he became not just a serviceable defender, not just a good defender, but DPOY (and a pretty good offensive player to boot).

Obviously there's no guarantee that Zizic will show the same meteoric improvement if given more playing time, but there's no good reason to pencil him in as a certain defensive liability either.

I think it's important to remember that Zizic has shown consistent improvement with increased minutes played.

Correct and also Kanter has never shown the passing ability that Zizic has.

Which other sophomore center has been a finished product on d after playing 40 games? Prob hasnt played that many

And he hasn't played consistently with either unit in practice even. He is just a fodder.

Though, Zizic's passing is rather basic still. He shows willingness and pretty good vision, but it's pretty straightforward. Doesn't have tunnel vision at all, which is pretty significant for a post up big.

Players like Zizic need to play and try to become real good at something. These Euro types tend to bust if they want to be versatile guys that do many things OK. Tall is not that valuable in the NBA when mid sized players can jump high enough to counter marginal 7 footers. Play him now and see if he can excel at something that matters, ideally shooting from a couple of spots on the floor where he can be fed.

Kanter is well known for never passing the ball. One thing that is nice and one of the reasons Zizic has such a high fg% is that he doesn't take shots he can't make
