Time for a Rudy Gay safari?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Difference between wanting Rudy and thinking we can get Rudy.

Every time I watch Shumpert I just see nothing but pure mediocrity running around out there. I have to imagine that the Kings can get something better.

Probably why it's going to require a third team.

Iman Shumpert would be the best player Rudy Gay has ever been traded for.

Eh that's looking at it with hindsight. When Ed Davis was moved for him I'd say it's safe to say he had more value around the league than Shumpert does now.

Now, it turns out Ed Davis just sucks, but back then that isn't what people were thinking.

More importantly, this is, by far, the most palatable Gay's contract has been since he's been moved. 12.5 million with the cap where it is vs. near 20 million with a far lower cap. Makes him more valuable, particularly compared to the last time he was dealt. He was a negative asset when he was shipped from Toronto to Sacramento with that big ass salary. Not sure that's the case now.

That said, I'm all for giving Sacramento every young prospect we got. If they'll take Shumpert+Osman+McCrae/Felder, I wouldn't think twice.

I would also ride a Kyrie/Gay/LeBron/Kevin core until LeBron's window shuts. So throwing whatever assets we have left at Sacramento and then locking him up in the off-season should also be priorities if we go after him.

After watching that Warriors game, I think it's mindboggling to think Gay won't provide 2 or 3 times what Shumpert or even Korver brings out there. He's just the perfect size to switch on to basically everyone of their players from Green to Thompson and then on the other end you have to put a body on him.

You would never see a Korver, Love, Frye lineup but suddenly a Love, Korver, Lebron, Gay lineup would suddenly work.

I don't think anybody here actually believes that. Getting the Kings to agree to a deal that gives them Shumpert for Gay is another thing entirely. The Kings organization is hell bent on getting the Kings into the playoffs by any means necessary because of the new arena.

Swap Gay for Shump and I still think SAC can get that seed. (8th)

The three team swap of Gay-Rubio-Shumpert works. I think it really hinges on whether Minny would be happy with Shumpert and Osman. They tend to overvalue their players, but Thibs likes his defense/hustle guys so it could be enough. Kings are so wildly disfunctional, I don't know what they expect to get back from a Rudy Gay rental.

All of this....

Minny wants Shumpert
Kings want a PG
Cavs want a wing...

Makes all the sense in the world.

Sources: Timberwolves actively shopping Ricky Rubio

The Minnesota Timberwolves are actively shopping point guard Ricky Rubio in trade proposals, league sources told The Vertical.

The Timberwolves have attached Rubio to multiple offers with Shabazz Muhammad to several teams around the NBA, league sources said. Minnesota has been seeking something of a “bridge” guard in return, a player capable of starting in the short term, but who’ll ultimately settle into a backup role and give way to rookie Kris Dunn to become the long-term starter, league sources said.

The Sacramento Kings have had a strong interest in acquiring Rubio, but there’s no traction on a deal between those two teams, league sources said. So far, the Timberwolves are trying to exhaust the market elsewhere for a better return of assets than the Kings can offer.

The NBA’s trade deadline is Feb. 23.

Dunn was the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, the first selection of president and coach Tom Thibodeau and general manager Scott Layden’s tenure.

Rubio, 26, is the highest paid player on the young Timberwolves roster this season. He is making $13.5 million for 2016-17 and will be owed $29 million through the end of his contract in 2019.

Rubio is averaging 7.6 points, 7.9 assists and four rebounds a game this season. For his career, Rubio has averaged 9.8 points, 8.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds.

Need a way to forward this thread to David Griffin's e-mail.

So all the Wolves want is a serviceable guard who will most likely bounce between their starting lineup and their bench?

Someone who can play the point sparingly and is not necessarily a point guard?

That sounds a hell of a lot like Iman Shumpert.
