Trade Deadline - Feb 8 at 3:00 EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
From the reports it appears we backed out of the Clippers deal for DJ to do the Lakers trade for Nance and Clarkson?

If so, that's not what I would have done...think DJ, Hill, Hood fits better than Nance/Clarkson. Would fill all three needs at center PG SG, now we are loaded up in the back court and thin up front. But maybe Gilbert didn't want to pay big money to keep DJ next year

Likely would have effected both deals because of contracts involved I doubt Clippers were willing to take TT or JR so it was likely Crowder Frye Isiah Shumpert our 18 first for DeAndre. Or something along those lines.

We couldn’t have landed Hood.

Crowder (whom the Jazz liked a lot) would’ve been going to the Clippers in that deal.

Clips didn’t want Isaiah.

Also, Nance is a versatile big who can play against Golden State. He even has a midrange game.

D.J. is a very limited basketball player. Trust me, we are better off.

Plus we have what it takes to get something if a Super Star becomes available. DJ would not have provided that.

The new guys plus what we saw tonight is going to be deadly. Most athletic and good shooting team LeBron had ever played on.

That is a very encouraging post. Because now I am worried. We lack size and rebounding, and that’s what DJ would bring.

Can you tell me more about DJ’s limitations?

His 14.9 rpg would seem to help the Cavs, but I see that his blocks are way down - he’s averaged as many as 2.4 bpg, but is only averaging 1.0 this season. I’m afraid that we are going to end up with some third-rate big, after the buyouts...

Well, he’s a 29 year old center who has relied on raw athleticism his entire life. There’s a reason he was a 2nd round pick out of A&M as opposed to early lottery despite his athletic gifts—he was raw.

He remains raw. He’s never developed a true post-game. Most of his buckets come off pick and roll lobs, weak-side lobs, and rim runs. He also has a pretty low basketball IQ.

He used to be a DPOY candidate but he has fallen off athletically. He’s still above average as a leaper for his size but he can’t get by being a specimen anymore in the same way Dwight can’t. He’s not the presence he once was.

Hence, his defensive metrics have taken a nose-dive.

Offensively, he’s no better than Tristan Thompson.

He would have been a hard matchup to play against Golden State as he does not have the feet to switch onto a guard or the offensive game to justify keeping him on the floor.

You combine all of that with the fact that he’s planning to opt-out and seek maximum money in the offseason and you really don’t get good value on a deal for him.

I think we got so much better making the deal for young guys. Nance is a fantastic rebounder and a great athlete.

If you want a big that can give Golden State fits, it’s him. He can switch anything defensively and his length is a problem on the glass when the Warriors try to go small.

You also added all the other pieces to go with Nance.

Now, admittedly, I’m just hammered drunk right now, but I hope this helped.

Really excited about the flurry of moves. Honestly expected the cavs to get one guy who was a Korver level player.

If we can find a center with even the smallest amount of rim protection in the buyout market I’d give the Cavs a 10-15% of winning a ship this season. A few days ago it was just above zero.

DJ was the 35th pick in the draft and he is a better offensive player than TT, better rebounder, better roll man and a better finisher. Defensively I think he is just mailing it in this season, I don't think he has fallen off a cliff yet.
