Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs

Or maybe they realize that JJ is at his highest value and has hands of stone. He is no better then a 4th option on a decent team…get what you can for him.
Yup...

JJ is anything but proven.
His holes are too similar to Drew Gooden and there were plenty of people very high on him..look how he panned out.
While it takes time for a big to develope if he has below average instincts ,which I am pretty certain is his main flaw, then he's got a low ceiling.

Gooden and Hickson are two entirely different players (styles).

Most I'd offer for #2 would be #4, #32, and maybe Gibson.

I would not mind getting an unprotected pick in 2013.

I would imagine since we can get Miami's first round pick in 2013, they'd much rather get a 2012 pick. Plus, the 20th pick in next years draft might be the equivalent of having a top 8 pick in this years draft.

Let me get this straight...you think that JJ is a good 4th option on a decent team? You do realize that a 4th option on a decent team is a good player usually...right?

JJ is worth a lot more than "what you can get for him."

I have read that Muhammad and Drummond would go 1 and 2 in 2011 and 2012 if they were available. I am just saying these are going to franchise changing talents!

I wouldn't say that's accurate in most cases...A forth option on the floor is primarily relegated to a role player (which JJ is)..Someone that can maybe run the floor, finish on a pick and roll or cleanup something at the rim...

I mean you can have four talented players--maybe one is a sixth man or something ? But in most cases the "4th" option isn't really even an option at all...

JJ is not really an option so when I think 4th option I think of a role player...Which is what he is...Nobody really puts in a ton of time to scheme for him..Hell, he's more than capable of defending himself...:chuckles:

a wise man once said championships are not won by your top 3 players but your 4th-8th players

4th options on decent teams:

Boston: Rondo
Chicago: Noah
Miami: Haslem
LA: Odom
Mavs: Marion
Hawks: Crawford
Thunder: Harden

Those are all arguably the 4th options on those teams. If you're calling JJ a 4th option -- which I believe is accurate if not an understatement given last years numbers -- then there's no way in hell we trade him for anything except a 2012 lottery pick in my opinion.

Trading JJ to get Williams is a wash, and if we have to throw in a pick on top of it, then we are wasting assets to gain nothing. That's just plain stupid.

Gooden and Hickson are two entirely different players (styles).
You're not getting it..not talking about style of play but mentally able to figure things out.Gooden could never get the D down and Hickson resembles that also.
I see a player that doesn't really react well to defensive assignments and knowing where to be,how to guard his man.

I have to actually agree there. Joe Gabriele - main beat writer for Cavs.com - is a good mutual friend of mine. He holds video interviews with the current players in the preseason and occasionally during the regular season. In having multiple conversations with Joe, he's made a few things clear: When I asked who the coolest, most down to earth Cavalier was (circa 2005) he responded Drew Gooden.

He said Gooden was dumber than a bag of rocks, but "knew how to party."

When asked who the dumbest Cavalier was (circa 2009-2010) he responded: "Well, since Gooden is gone, J.J. is one of the most unintelligent players I've ever met."

He claims he and his producer had to provide Hickson with suitable answers before the interview started because J.J. was not confident he would understand/be able to answer all of the questions. And that is all 100% truth.

Derrick Williams might end up being an all star or he might not, but his floor is better than J.J. Hickson. Derrick Williams is already a better shooter, ball handler, and has better hands while he is at least as athletic and can't possibly be a worse defender. If his college career is any indication he is at least as good of a rebounder too. Hickson is a better shot blocker, that is it. They are pretty close to the same size. Williams doesn't seem to be as dumb. I see no way that Williams isn't better than Hickson within a year.

I can believe it. Every time I've heard him talk I wonder if he was able to spell his name correctly on the SATs.

From what I'm hearing, it sounds like the Timberwolves, Cavs and Jazz are all very active in looking to trade down.

Let's make a blockbuster trade to land 1, 2, 3, 4
