Trade Rumor(s)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Isn't Shabazz Muhammad kind of limited defensively? We really cannot afford to let Shumpert go without getting a solid perimeter defender back.

Rubio is a pipe dream. There's no way we will get him unless we include someone like a Shump in the deal. And, I am not sure that is ideal. If we are trading Shump, it should be for a wing/forward who can deputize for LeBron and has the ability defend players like Durant or Kawhi or Butler or DeRozan etc. The back-up Point Guard has to come from other assets, be it Trade Exceptions, Draft Picks, Cedi Osman etc or from buy-outs.

Well, you definitely have to include Shumpert, no other way to even get the salaries to match.

Shumpert can't guard Durant either, so I'm not sure you're losing a Durant defender. I agree it would be nice to have another, but I'm not sure who you would get? Thabo is the only option I can see, but Atlanta is winning now. Rudy Gay is hurt now, PJ Tucker is a mess to get salary cap wise. Any other options?

I honestly don't think there's much option in a Warrior series except to have LBJ defend Durant a lot --- Rubio would help with this by taking over some of the offensive ball handling duty.

Rubio is also premium Curry defender (see above video).

Rubio is a pretty solid perimeter defender against PGs -- he's also 6'4", which allows him to guard most SGs.

PGs have killed us, because Kyrie is below average defensively, Rubio would help with that.

Ohh, Rubio is generally an excellent defender.

If he was even a decent shooter, he would have been amongst the likes of Wall, Lowry, Kemba etc because his overall game except his shooting/scoring is outstanding. But the thing is, we need some sort of shooting from our point guard.

See, I love Rubio. I was very high on him when he was drafted and I love watching old school point guards in general. But I am not too high on the trade. Also, Rubio is kinda injuryprone. Thats an issue as well.

Shumpert is also injury prone -- they've played around the same number of games since they've come into the league (within about 20 games i think).

I think the shooting woes can be nullified on a team like the Cavs. There are two things you worry about:

1.) Lack of gravity as a spot up shooter -- Rubio isn't too bad from the corners (35.6% over his career). Also, the Cavs can trot him out alongside the likes of JR Smith, Kevin Love, Channing Frye, Kyle Korver, etc. There should be plenty of space inside even when Rubio is off the ball.

2.) The lack of ability to shoot off of a PnR -- This is a bit challenging, as it allows the defense to go under the screen and clog up the paint. It's obviously a problem, and it's why Rubio is even available on the trade market. I think there are two ways around this in Cleveland though. First, I would look to put Rubio on the ball and have Korver/LBJ run screens off the ball. The goal should be to free up LBJ on his way to the basket or Korver on the 3PT line. Rubio is a brilliant passer, and allows us to run a lot of LBJ/Korver, LBJ/Frye or KI/Frye sets to get our real offensive threats open.

Secondly, LBJ is such a threat rolling to the basket that the PnR game should work even if the team tries to block the paint. With a brilliant passer like Rubio, LBJ should still command a double team near the basket, and that should open our 3PT shooters to make shots.

I don't think Rubio plays a lot when both KI and LBJ are in the game. With two ball dominant players there isn't a need for another assist artist on offensive.

However, even in the playoffs there should be 20 MPG for Rubio when either LBJ or KI is off the court. Given Rubio's defensive ability he plugs in easily alongside either.

Think of a 4th Q Lineup that looks like: Rubio/Smith/Korver/LBJ/Love(Thompson)

Where Love/Thompson depend on what you want to do matchup wise. That's a crazy defensive lineup across the board - and on top of that, there are a lot of offensive threats whether it's just playing a LBJ/Korver pick and pop game. Or getting the ball to Love on the post, or running the ball through Rubio and setting up Lebron/Love/Thompson going to the hoop.

If he was even a decent shooter, he would have been amongst the likes of Wall, Lowry, Kemba etc because his overall game except his shooting/scoring is outstanding. But the thing is, we need some sort of shooting from our point guard.

Beggars can't really be choosers - and we don't have the assets now to be too specific. Rubio's defense is light years ahead of the other PG options we've been discussing, and that's why I think it's much more reasonable to trade Shumpert for him. I think the shooting problems can be overcome given the players we can put around him.

Just saw Jameer Nelson's 4th quarter against the Jazz. Shame players like that are out of our reach.

Not sure if he's the type of PG they're looking for anyways, I'm not sure if we can find another Delly this year. I'd like to be wrong though.

CJ Watson is someone I'd keep an eye on. Fits into a trade exception. Low value. Older player.

No. CJ has a contract of 5 mln this year, right beyond any of our TPE (4.4mln, 4.8mln, 2.2mln) + 100k, so we cannot absorb CJ purely by TPE now. If Griff had not separated the big TPE, then we could have been able to...

Denver is in it right now and not sure whether they now willing to give away Nelson. Nelson is also WTF kinda player in some games, while he looked good today.

Yeah, I'll say it. Trade for waiters. He plays well against the Warriors going back to the WCF last year and recently. Good ball handler off the bench. Get it done griff.

If you want a perimeter defender, maybe this? (Osman to Minnesota):

That's giving away basically every last asset we have. However, the fact that Rubio is young and under a reasonable contract gives you some wiggle room if this doesn't work.

I'd be all over this. Rubio offers insurance if something happens to Kyrie. Depth insurance and future trades insurance.
