Trade Rumor(s)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Of course we would be interested in Tyson Chandler.

Not sure Suns would give him up though. They seem to like him as a vet presence.

  1. Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: Ricky Rubio, Brandon Rush, Jordan Hill

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: Iman Shumpert, DeAndre Liggins [or Jordan McRae], Chris Andersen (to be waived), two trade exceptions

The Minnesota Timberwolves asked about Iman Shumpert in October, according to ESPN.com's Zach Lowe, and their desire for him should only increase after shooting guard Zach LaVine suffered a season-ending ACL tear.

Though the Cleveland Cavaliers likely aren't shopping Shumpert, as he's their best perimeter defender and is owed a reasonable $31 million through 2018-19, he's not the playmaker LeBron James has pleaded for time and again.

    Enter Ricky Rubio.

Still only 26, Rubio is under contract through 2018-19 and can anchor Cleveland's second unit while preserving James and Kyrie Irvingfor an annual Finals run. The Spaniard's shooting leaves much to be desired, but he can still create easy baskets for others and defend his position.

If Minnesota agrees to fill the Cavaliers' other needs (Brandon Rush for wing defense and Jordan Hill for backup center duty), Cleveland can justify parting with Shumpert.

Trade is weak and the Cavs are not going to eat that kind of salary for that kind of trash.

Agent says Larry Sanders has offer to return to NBA

If everything goes accordingly, Larry Sanders will return to the NBA in about two weeks.

What’s more, he could be returning to a team that is bound for the playoffs.

Sanders, the former Milwaukee Bucks’ starting center who shocked the basketball world by deciding to quit playing in 2015, recently auditioned for a half dozen teams over a two-day period in Miami.

The 6-foot-11 Sanders went through a series of drills and then conducted interviews for the NBA officials in attendance. Sanders openly discussed his past on-court and off-court issues as well as his desire to resume his pro career.

“It went very well,’’ said veteran agent Joel Bell, who represents Sanders. “They (NBA officials) had as much time as they wanted to work on certain drills with Larry or to talk to him.’’

Sanders, 28, was the 15th overall selection in the 2010 draft. Regarded as a project coming into the league, Sanders gradually honed his game to the point where he emerged as one of the elite rim protectors in the NBA. He averaged 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots for the 2012-2013 season, in addition to scoring 9.8 points a game.

That strong showing earned Sanders a four-year, $44 million contract from the Bucks. But after several missteps, and an open admission by Sanders that he wasn’t mentally into the game anymore, the Bucks and Sanders agreed to a buyout.

Using the league’s then “stretch provision’’, Sanders agreed to a seven-year deal that paid him $1.9 million annually through the 2021-2022 season.

Sanders will continue to collect that amount from the Bucks even if he now signs with a team. And Bell was confident that will happen sooner than later.

“A lot of teams have expressed interest in Larry,’’ Bell said. “We already have one offer on the table. We should have something done at some point, probably by the All-Star break.’’

The start of the All-Star break is the middle of next week. The All-Star Game will be played on Feb. 19 in New Orleans.

Bell wouldn’t disclose the six teams that attended Sanders’ workout in Miami or the team which has made the offer.

However, an NBA executive, whose team is a lock for the playoffs, confirmed his team had a representative at Sanders’ workout and felt Sanders acquitted himself well. That same source said two other playoff-bound teams, which he wouldn’t reveal, checked out Sanders in Miami.

If he really had an offer, he'd have taken it already.

Ricky Rubio is not trash smh but yeah I do believe there is a better trade to be made but good god, how ignorant calling Rubio trash.

I think @InBoobieWeTrust 's point is that the Cavs aren't going to increase payroll by $10M just to add Rubio and subtract Shumpert. While I agree Rubio isn't trash, in this context, well... He's not worth the cost, that's for sure..

I might have an unpopular opinoin, but I think Rubio's skill set works extremely well with a second unit that consists of 2 of the best spot up 3 point shooters in basketball. He can get those guys wide open looks, and he fits Griffs philosophy of a drive and kick guard.

Honestly? If the luxury tax wasn't a concern I could see the Cavs doing this trade.

I would love Rubio and he is very underrated and Love loves him. I would not be shocked to see him in a Cavs uniform eventually. The worst part is would have to know if Mr. Williams can be the back Up 1-4 with Rubio as the play maker. I am thinking what if the Cavs landed Rubio And gave up scraps and Williams plays out. Then we need one depth big man and man how nice would that be. I digress though as most fans are getting greedy me included.

Just parsing here, but do you think for the Cavs to entertain a Carmelo trade the trade has to be salary neutral, or close to it?

Cause that makes it even more unlikely.

Very close to it. The Cavs have been very tight with purse strings so far and I can't really blame them. Dan went above and beyond to secure the team's first championship.

Well, if that's the case then I'm not sure how we go about sending out nearly 24 million in salary if it isn't Kevin Love.

Love doesn't Love Rubio.. where did you get that piece of information? I don't think Rubio likes Love very much, they had their fair share of problems, especially right before he left.

Also, just thinking out loud here, JR is making 3 million more than Shump...trading JR instead would put us a hell of a lot closer to neutralizing the salaries and saving Dan a shitload of luxury tax in the process.

JR is untradeable with that contract.
