Trade the 8th pick? Where? Why? How?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I mean if it is the right move, and it's certainly debatable, I'd rather we eventually get it right than to never at all.

I think we're only 3-1 dogs in the finals if we get there. We would be significantly better with those guys

I agree we would be.. but we could have had them now if we really wanted them.. and that’s just throwing away an easier trip to the Finals and potential championship.. especially if the rockets get there.. DJ would have been perfect for Capela.. and that’s just unacceptable to me if we do end up doing a deal like that.. but we won’t.. I think we will aim higher.. at least I hope lol smh

I don't know if you can get higher. Really depends on your goal.

I don't know if we could of had both Kemba and DeAndre at the deadline. I think draft picks would have been involved with both and we only had one draft pick to trade. A trade down of picks wasn't in the cards. I think if we play our cards right we can have both if we want them in the offseason, maybe even still net a draft pick in the top 13.

Would anyone take back Chandler Parsons with the #4 in exchange for #8 plus filler. Devil in the detail being the filler (JR + Clarkson?).

If JJJ slid to #4, I'd jettison filler and absorb salary for him. I'm sure Dan would too.

I'd suspect that a trade like the above would be heavily dependent on Memphis' 3 top guys all going ahead of that pick, so you'd have to hope JJJ was someone they were more luke warm on.

They're so far away that I would suspect they aren't that motivated to move off money....it would have to be a situation where they don't like anyone at #4 but are comfortable at #8 + cutting loose Parsons dead weight.

I would look for a trade down scenario if possible from #8. The clippers have said they are looking to move up. #12, #13, and DeAndre Jordan might be too much to ask for #8 but I don't think Deandre's value is that high and the clippers know that. I think we give up #8, TT, and filler.

From there I would try to package 12 and 13 to get another star. Would Charlotte bite on 12 and 13 for Kemba and a bad contract or two that isn't Batum?

We just have to get younger, with more long term upside / potential. DJ + Kemba is an incredibly short sighted, try to improve your odds slightly (5%) for one more year move. We just have to get out of that cycle IMO. It's not financially sustainable and it is the most likely way to push LeBron out early.

If we are moving #8 in any capacity, it needs to be for a 24-26 ish player that can enter his prime and morph in to an alpha scorer as LeBron slows down. I.e. if it isn't for Brad Beal, I'm not trading that selection for a vet alone. We'll be one of the only contending teams with several valuable young assets if the right player crops up (whoever #8 pick is, Cedi, Zizic, future pick).

I'd rather have control over a young asset, that will be really attractive as teams disintegrate and have yard sales around January of next year....or to actually develop to be a lead guy in 2 years or so as LeBron hits the twilight.

I'd much rather invest resources in moving up in this draft vs. trading out of it for a vet player. To even be remotely interested in Jordan, I'd have to get both picks as you said. DJ, 12, 13 for TT and #8. There is a massive premium on draft assets. If a team wants to move up 5 spots in the lottery, it is going to be really expensive. Beyond an overpay like that, I'm not taking on DJ. I'd rather just let TT become expiring money and take the #1 player left on our board at #8.

I think Memphis would be more inclined to get off Parsons salary and move down in the draft if they could somehow open up enough cap space to resign Tyreke Evans this offseason.

As for DeAndre Jordan, I like getting him in a trade down scenario but I agree I wouldn't give up a pick straight up for him. I question even giving him a contract extension. I think we can get him on a better deal next offseason when the market will actually say what he is worth. I think he is more of a 17-19 million dollar player vs 24+ million they would give with any extension.

If we developed Zizic for a full season we'd have a better all around player for next year's postseason than DJ.

I think people dont quite understand how far DAJ has fallen. Didnt he finish something like 38th in blocks this year?

I have no interest in getting slightly taller TT. Keep #8 and take BPA and dont waste assets for a maybe all star like DAJ or Kemba.

DJ is worthless vs Warriors. Last game I watched they was just toying with him.

Is there any scenario that makes sense and is plausible to land PG?

Is there any scenario that makes sense and is plausible to land PG?

Yes. There are 2 scenarios where this is possible.

1: Cavs use series of deals to get under tax Apron. Then they sign & trade for George. This is less plausible and its arguable whether it makes sense or not. You'd really gut the teams depth but you'd also reset our repeater tax penalty and you gain a ton of cap flexibility and obviously you add another star in George for cheap-ish(I dont think we need trade the Nets pick to OKC in this scenario. BUT the problem with this strategy is that it would gut the roster big-time and we likely would not be able to field a deep enough team to compete for a title next season. This is a move with a big eye on going hard for the title in the 2019-2020 season. Also you need a LOT of things to fall perfectly in your favor... Gourimoko has detailed the "how and why" better than I ever could.

2: This is a scenario that is actually legitimately possible/realistic. Paul George has the ability to opt-in to the final year of his contract. If he opts in, he can be traded to the Cavs since it's not a S&T so the Cavs being a tax team does't matter. Biggest issue with this scenario is that Paul George would be leaving approximately $8-10 million dollars on the table. For 1 year only tho. (Cavs would undoubtedly have a handshake deal in place to give him a 5 year max the folllowing summer...al-a Kevin Love. It's not super crazy because the Cavs have already been very far down the road on a Paul George acquisition before. He's talked to Ty, Dan, Koby and most importantly...LeBron about playing for the Cavs and trying to win a title here. And things obviously went pretty well in those conversations because the Cavs were ready and willing, after these conversations took place, to send Kevin Love to Indiana AND give up a future lottery protected 1st round pick(I think it was 2023? maybe 2022...) in order to acquire George. But in this scenario, George would basically talk to OKC and most likely they would have an agreed upon framework for a deal already in place with the Cavs, before George opts in...and then the trade will happen almost immediately after he opts in. The Thunder have enough leverage to demand either Kevin Love or #8, but not both. If we had the room to sign George we wouldn't have to give up either but we don't so we have to play ball...

I'd love to get George for Love or #8 and then turn around and flip the other one for McCollum. I think that makes us a legit contender again. I think McCollum is dying to play next to a playmaker like LBJ.

McCollum
George
Lebron

God. Damn.

Does anyone have any idea how the Cavs can make any deals with this pick from a timing/logistical standpoint considering free agency comes after the draft? How do they plan for the future without knowing Lebron’s intentions? Seriously asking...
