Trade the 8th pick? Where? Why? How?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Since the topic is trading the pick..

I am wondering if we could get gasol and Conley for love, hill, hood and the 8th..

Memphis goes rebuild with the 4rth and the 8th kn a deep draft, and we get two vets who can score.

Starters would be Conley, Cedi,James, TT and Gasol, with a bench led minutes wise by Nance and Korver Clarkson

It would be a lot harder to physically beat up that team than was we are putting out there now..

If Lebron is going to stay, I think you talk to OKC right away about PG. Lebron would need to convince PG to opt-in (similar to Chris Paul last year) so the Cavs could trade for him. I don't think the Cavs can sign and trade since they're over the salary apron.

The deal you look for is Love + Smith for PG and Carmelo. I think from OKC's side, they'd do this deal in a heartbeat as long as PG forces their hand since it gets them value for PG, who could otherwise walk away, and also rids the team of Melo who bogged them down way too much. They'd have to take on JR's contract, but JR at 15M is probably a better value than Melo at 27M.

A deal like that allows Cleveland to still use their pick to select a young player or allows them to trade the pick to try and pick up another guard. You leave yourself vulnerable if Lebron and PG bolt the next season but that's a risk worth taking to extend the championship window another year.

You guys are wasting time... the moment to trade this pick is long gone and it was before the lottery odds were defined.

LBJ made his decision to no commit, Cavs reacted and made their decision to not fully invest on his staying. So he's not staying, in all likelihood.. move on

I don't think the Cavs front office needs to talk to OKC about a deal for PG13. It basically up to George to leverage his way to here. Lebron needs to be the one recruiting him. The CP3 deal was more of a scramble on the clippers part to get value for him. Houston won out because the clippers didn't have time to think or leverage.

Like if we know PG13 is going to leverage his way here, I would try to trade down from #8. If we offer OKC a pick from #10 to #15 I doubt they say no. Save Kevin Love for another deal.

Im on the fence with adding Melo to the deal. I feel like Melo is a last resort kind of deal. I do think LeBron could make him fit but it such a short term kind of play. I don't see Melo lasting with the team more than 2 years. How much left does he have in the tank?

I think this draft is deep enough that teams will see a guy they like at #8. I do think a trade needs to happen at the draft though. Once we make the pick that player will be a much narrower market than the pick itself. You can see from the other thread, at 8 everyone seems to have 2 guys they like that will likely fall but they also have 2 or 3 guys they hate.

If you're giving OKC the pick, you don't give them Love and you don't take back Melo. For sure. I'd only toss him in the deal to incentive OKC to do the trade. There's the longshot that he'd fit w/ Lebron and settle into a productive role, but that's not why he's in the deal.

I think you can get better value than one year of PG with the 8th pick, which is why I went the Love route. I don't think Love has much more value than that at this point and he's only guaranteed one more year since he has a player option his final year.

I think if PG13 is going to walk OKC would be more than happy to take Love back. There is no reason to take back Melo in the deal unless no other options are on the table. You don't want to burn JR or Hill's expirings on Melo if we can still make a deal with the 8th pick for a good player.

What about this (will never happen, but entertain it):

Cleveland trades Kevin Love + 8th Pick to Portland, Tristan Thompson to the Clippers
Cleveland gets Damian Lillard, Deandre Jordan

Lineup is:

Lillard
Hill
LeBron
Nance
Deandre

Giving up too much imo.

Rather trade TT instead of Love.

And, then trade Love for a wing.

If it came down to it and was a stall mate... Kevin Love and #8 for PG and 2 seconds (18' and 19') you do it?

What about klove and #8 for PG and 2019 okc first?

Just honestly we know Kevin ain't a true #2 option on a championship team. And could be the last chance to keep LeBron . the 2019 first might not be bad from OKC because either Paul and LeBron stay and we do whatever with that pick. Or they bolt and we use that pick in regards to rebuild ...I personally think PG means so much more then KLove. Younger, makes his own shot. Doesn't get the injuries year in year out etc.

I mean hell, if LeBron leaves I see us doing a full rebuild and letting Kevin walk anyway. So is #8 worth PG and possibly keeping LeBron and maybe 2 2nds or maybe a future first?!

PG is starting to get overrated. I understand he played in a bad fit situation in OKC but he disappeared A LOT in some big games.

I truly think giving up Love for PG is a lateral move. Let alone Love AND #8.

Seems like Doncic may be pulling strings to avoid going to the Suns or the Kings...would be a dream if he tries to leverage his way here and we swing a trade to move up and take him. He'd be the perfect guy to take the load off LeBron offensively while also giving us a guy to build around in the long term.

On the other hand, I'm sure he realizes he'd always be in LeBron's shadow playing here, and it's hard to imagine that's what he wants, even if it comes with the opportunity for immediate playoff success.

My Cavs ideal summer:

Flip the pick for #12 from the Clippers for DeAndre.
Send #12 to Charlotte for Kemba Walker and Marvin Williams (Clarkson+salary)

Try to flip Nance and Zizic for late or future firsts.

Trade whatever we have left minus Kevin Love for Paul George (opted in):

Cedi, Hill, Marvin Williams, (maybe) Korver, result of Nance trade, result of Zizic trade, and JR Smith.. Taking back George and Melo's bad contract.

Send Melo to the Clippers (as salary for Jordan)....

OKC gets Cedi + hopefully a first rounder, (maybe) Kyle Korver, Marvin Williams and George Hill; while dumping Melo. Basically, a bunch of 3 point shooting role-players to put around Westbrook.

Hornets get their pick for Kemba.

Clippers take back 1 year of Melo and his bird rights to fill seats during a mini-rebuild.
