Sorry Finnan, but personally I choose not believe Grant would not part with Varejao for Green straight up, given the current roster configuration. This would have been madness on Grant's part. An asking price of Varejao AND the pick is more likely, at which point Grant would have been correct to say no.

The only way a move like Varejao for Green (or any move for a competent SF) would not be made is that Gilbert has back channel assurances that James is 75% + certain to sign in CLE next year. Nothing else makes sense.

Devin Ebanks and Reggie Williams are 2 guys who both had some success at the NBA level and are currently chilling in the DLeague. I'm just sayin', I think either one of those guys could give the Cavs good minutes at the 3 right now.

Remembered Reggie Williams and really liked his 3pt stroke especially when he was in GS.

That's it. I'm kidnapping Kyle Korver and brainwashing him into thinking that he's a Cavalier. The man has a .703 TS%, for Christ's sake! See you all in jail.

But seriously, get Barnes on this team. One of the best small forward prospects out there, and his price can't be too high right now considering he's not going to see the starting lineup any time soon. I'm sure the win-now mode GS Warriors would be willing to part with him if it meant getting something that could improve their team immediately.

I'm all for targeting Barnes, but what do we have that would help them win now? Varejao? Bynum?

Varejao gives a team 5+ extra posessions per game based on his hustle alone. In a close game, that's the difference between a win and a loss sometimes. He's the kind of guy you add to win a 'ship. IMO of course.

For Barnes? They can have w/e they want excluding Dion, Tristan, and the '14 pick. I remember the Cavs offered Varejao for that pick on draft night and were rebuffed. I think Barnes would thrive here playing off the penetration and being used as a third weapon rather than a fallback option.

Not sure I'd give up bennett yet either. If the Cavs can use Varejao and that Memphis pick as the primary pieces I'd be thrilled.

Is there any talk of Barnes being moved though?

Barnes would be ideal here..dion/kyrie/jack and even delly can make their own plays.. he just needs to do his thing and 3&D all day long

Barnes is going no where.

He is the only viable bench piece they have and is their 6th man. Not to mention he is cheap as he's still on his rookie contract.

Agreed...

Cavs aren't prying Barnes away from Golden State without coughing up talent and picks. They have absolutely no reason whatsoever to trade him.

Edit: Misread that quote. Thought it said including, not excluding. :chuckles:

Well, they did just sign a guy to a long-term contract to start at the same position he plays. That's a pretty solid reason to trade him.

The bottom line is that Golden State has to at least be exploring what they can get for Barnes. They're a playoff team, and trading him for a piece that can help them win more than a back-up small forward has to be on the table.

How about Jack to the Wizards for Martell Webster?

Washington needs a backup PG badly. They're currently choosing between Garrett Temple and Eric Maynor, sporting 2.5 and 7.4 PERs respectively. According to 82games, they've been a brutal -21.1 per 100 possessions with Wall on the bench. Jack would combine with Beal and Wall to give them a pretty solid 3-guard rotation for years to come. Meanwhile at SF they have Porter coming into the rotation and Ariza starting and playing heavy minutes, so Webster is forced to find minutes playing out of position at SG. Webster has a PER of 19 at SF compared to 10 at SG according to 82games, so this clearly isn't ideal for anyone.

Webster takes over half his shots from 3 and he's making 42% of them, so his fit in Cleveland is obvious. He's also sporting a 3:1 assist/turnover ratio, and he appears to be a solid defender as well (although I'll admit I haven't watched him play much at all).

What am I missing? This seems like an awesome deal for both sides. Make it happen Grant!

EDIT: and Beal is injured for the second time this year, so the Wiz could really use a guard about now.

GS can use him as a stretch 4 like they did in last year's playoffs. With his rookie contact I just don't see them being them really looking to move him unless they get an exceptional offer

I like it, though I'm sure we'll have to throw in some kind of pick to get them to take Jack. Fuck, give them a bunch of 2nd rounders. It's not like Grant uses them anyway.

I love that Jack for Webster trade mentioned above...

Watched the Laker/Jazz game tonight (yes I did) and both Marvin Williams and Xavier Henry could come in and start for our Cavs. They can both catch&shoot the 3 and know how to swing the ball to an open man which are basically the 2 things Alonzo Gee could never figure out. Either one could potentially be had without giving up much in assets I would think..

As for Harrison Barnes he is overrated. Not mentally tough enough. Yes he had a good playoff series last season after David Lee got hurt and the Warriors trotted out the small lineup. Of course the Spurs were trying to stop the Splash brothers and had Tony Parker defending Barnes. I wouldn't give up the assets required to get him.
