Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Seems unlikely the Cavs will have a chance to sit him long enough for the thumb to get back to 100% until after the season, but good news that he can play with it.

I hope this doesn't put Hack-a-Tristan even more fully on the table. I wonder if he'll revert to shooting lefty.

If TT got surgery now, and with Aldridge's having missed 6-8 weeks from a fully torn ligament in his thumb as a guide, when could TT be expected back? What playoff round?

At best, probably the conference finals. Maybe this team gets there without him if they got Boston in round two. But I dont think they survive Washington or Toronto without him.

He's just going think have to play and hope it doesn't get worse.

I'm more concerned about Golden State. If he can't shoot free throws or make layups properly, they're going to hack him all game and keep the game in check.

Aldridge played on an even worse tear and was really good that year in the post season. Tristan should be mostly fine.

Actually, that was the year they played the Grizz, and he shot like shit.

Of course, a lot of other Blazers got hurt, but he wasn't really good.

Ehh, he was clearly their best player the whole series. I don't think he shot poorly because of the thumb. Memphis was just a damn good defensive team and Gasol was on him the whole series. He still had like 34/12, 24/14,21/7/5, etc during the series.

But I also misremembered things a bit. I remember him having some really good stretches post injury. But it was during the regular season. He hurt the thumb in January and was really good, even shooting wise , throughout the rest of the regular season. 20/11 in Feb(struggled % wise at First). 24/10 in March on 50% shooting from the floor.(!!!) 22/8 in April. Helped Portland win a lot of games.

My general point that TT should be okay especially since he doesn't depend on an 18 footer to be effective, stands.

Yeah, he was fine in the regular season. He was tearing it up in the game Kyrie dropped 55.

My concern with TT is how will it impact his ability to catch, rebound, and make passed out of the pnr. Also, I know people are talking about how it's a good thing he used to shoot left handed, but his left hand is shit. There's a reason he's almost exclusively righty on his floater.

What hand is it on? I don't think it's going to halt his production. He just has to tape it up and go out there. Be on the lookout for Green though, he will try and note that finger off. That is when you have a bench rider take him out.

I had a RCL Thumb tear and still do on my left hand and it comes and goes and it never fully healed. If I aggrevate it too much I can not hold onto anything for two days.
In the acute phase you can barely do anything at all with that hand and then you realize how important the thumb is.
It's on his right hand so it's going to bother him quite a bit, luckily he isn't known for his shot. Although, I believe it's going to fuck up with his willingless to be aggressive on the boards.

If im the cavs he sits at least through the end of the regular season. Then re evaluate how the team is doing and who they are playing. He could get 3 weeks rest if he didn't play in the first round

Just to let people know, virtually all sprains involve a tearing of the ligament (except those where the ligament is merely stretched out and not torn).

So then, it becomes how much of the ligament is torn? If the ligament was completely torn, then you would call that a "torn ligament" of the thumb. Or some other designation to indicate it is completely torn apart (100% tear; complete tear; etc).

Sprains, in general, take 6 weeks to heal. Could be a bit less, or a bit more.

Tristan's thumb sprain sounds fairly severe. Fortunately the ligament is not completely torn. I don't know what "grade" the sprain is, but it sounds like it is beyond a grade 1 (mildest) sprain.

Tristan likely won't be at his best for some time. Hopefully a splint will allow him to play. Also, getting him some rest should help out his supposed knee tendonitis. It also (time off) could help Larry Sanders get some more playing time, too.

He probably has a grade 2 which is a partial tear.. Grade 3 is a full tear. He should be fine but he needs to not do anything with the thumb and put a cast/splint on it for a few weeks to let it heal.
