Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bottom line is he is right. Cavs are defending EC champs period

Technically.

Saying these things is like saying the 98-99 Bulls were three-time defending NBA champs.

I do appreciate Dashian's confidence on this...especially the "we already know that story" dig at his hometown team.

The bulls were in 2000
Question for you. What team is the defending EC champion ? I think it’s the Cavs. And until late may or whenever the next team wins it. It’s the Cavs.
Is it a technicality that GS is the defending NBA champions too ?

The 98-99 Bulls had MJ retire right before the season and Scottie also demanded a trade; they were 13-37.

I'm just saying that it's silly to project "defending champ" into meaning much for this coming year when you subtract a player of LeBron's caliber from a team that was only barely better than the runner-up, which by the way added Kyrie and Hayward to their playoff lineup. And those aren't comparable situations to GS, which is on its own level.

Again, I'm 100% on board with Dashian being confident about the team and saying what he was basically supposed to say, but am not going to have over-the-top expectations about rebuilding after what we went through the first time - nor, for that matter, expectations of being as dismal as the '10-11 depths.

This is completely wrong.

Phill left, Mj retired, Pippen was a free agent who was signed and traded.

The Bulls traded their entire team to tank to avoid the long rebuild.

Rodman was let to walk away.
Luc was,traded to the Knicks

On some level he is right and all there if those teams aren't even getting too the ECF. Like the Celtics the Cavs were a lock for the finals in 2008 until Boston traded for 2 Superstars. I have a feeling the same thing is going to happen with Boston this year. They will be really good build on their year last year, and get beat by Toronto

This guy hasn't been on a team that won a playoff game without #23 on it.

General rule for a player (in ANYTHING): If you're going to run your mouth, you'd better back it up or you'll look like an ass.

TT isn't enough of a player to take this team to the playoffs, much less to the Finals.

I like TT, he's a lunchpail guy that plays hard, I think his heart is in the right place and yes, we are the four-time defending champs -- but I suspect reaction around the Association will be laughter and that's not what you want.

I'd be thrilled with 35 wins.

He can’t be serious with that bravado...

Can he?

The Cavs are playing to win. expect to win and should be embracing that type of mentality.

TT had to adjust his role multiple times over the past few seasons to adapt to whatever Lue was trying to work in Kevin Love.

so I am looking forward to see TT emerge as a leader and show that tougness on the court.

Tristan has been the perfect "team" guy and instrumental in the Cavs Championship run and playoff runs.

people seem to want to fixate on his salary and one series against Golden State where the warrioirs chose to Double team him off the boards.

TT run the court at an elite level for a big man and he is strong enough to fend off bulked up big men and quick enough to keep up with athletic bigs around the league.

2For is correct. We haven't had the level of turnover of the multiple stars and coach that the "defending champion" Bulls had, but losing LeBron is certainly as much the same "order of magnitude" as losing one player can get.

We're also actually two vet superstars down from the time we were truly dominant in the East the way the Bulls dominated the league, if we want to compare multiple player moves, and one of those stars is on our competitor.

Again, nothing wrong with that level of confidence.

You want to know something that's incredibly sad and downright pathetic? The Bulls “only” lost 74.7% of their total playoffs’ VORP (Value Over Replacement Player) by losing Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman.

With LeBron leaving, the Cavs lost 100% of their playoffs’ VORP
with the loss of one man.

I'm all for confidence. But he speaks as if the rest of the Conference has to topple essentially the SAME team from its pedestal. The teammate that was responsible for that EC crown took his talents to Hollywood. If serious, Thompson is delusional.

IDGAF what TT says or does, since he smacked Draymond the guy is golden with me. I still want to see him traded, but he can say whatever he wants. Him exhibiting some attitude and toughness may be a good thing, he always came off before as kind of meek personality-wise. Maybe this will make him appealing to a team that wants a tough energy big.
