Tyronn Lue has been fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That same second unit was our best line-up the entire Pacers series. Tonight, it had some trouble. Might be a match-up thing. To Lue's credit, he adjusted early in the fourth with TT subbing for Frye.
Probably is a match up thing. But it has been a recurring issue the last couple months. Frye can't play against the Warriors anyway (other than maybe spare minutes against Zaza/West) so we should figure something out that works before The Finals.

It was the 1-5 and 2-5 pick and roll yesterday that killed Frye/Deron. My problem with Frye is that he seems to not know whether he should stay with the roller or ball handler. But you can see that he's not the best decision maker on the floor. And my assumption is LeBron is screaming at him to do something, but he's conflicted with what he should do on the floor. That's why you see him jack up a 3 as soon as he touches the ball. It's the one thing he doesn't have to think about being his height.

Everything about Lue is simple to understand now

- Not really a regular-season coach (in terms of maxing-out team then)
- Relies on:
.......................Cavs offense
.......................Defensive adjustments for the postseason
.......................Higher defensive effort/focus in the postseason (so go easy on guys in regular season)

This is what Lue is, and I like it.

His defensive schemes might not be genius, but they work and slow down the opponent enough so that our strong offense can get the job done.

The only problem I have with this, and maybe it's not entirely Lue's fault. Definitely partly IMO.

Given we are a veteran team, and we can't whip the horse in the regular season. I get that. It makes more sense.

He still needs to do a better job in putting a minutes restriction in the regular season on LeBron.

Now, I get it, there are at times we've had to play LB so much because of how much we rely on him.

Other times, I think he's just done what a lot of young coaches do, play his best player much more than needed.

I think Griffin hasn't done us much favors either in this aspect. Whether his fault, or not.

Going forward, we got to be able to be somewhat productive with LeBron on the bench.

This is where our lack of two-way players hurts us, given LB is so great on both ends for us.

Another reason I really wanted a Rudy Gay before he got injured.

Frye issues will be sorted partially by changing up hos pick and roll coverage. Just have him sag or show recover instead of trap

I agree we should try running RJ or Derrick W. out there instead of Frye in some of those second rotations, at least for this series.

The defensive game-planning and execution against both Indiana and Toronto has been solid. It's surpassed anything the Cavs did on that side of the floor during the regular season. Plus he's getting the most out of role defenders like JR and Shump. Hasn't even had to use LeBron as a situational defender yet, just comfortable to function as a free safety, even against small lineups. Pretty encouraging stuff.

He's very good in developing game plans when he has the time to do it.

Thankfully the playoffs give him that time.

Love his warning to the team about complacency heading into Toronto up 2-0.

Agreed the cavs have been very good at rotating on the back line and when lebron spots an opening to go for a steal most of the time the others have been on a string to cover the gaps created

Lue definitely needed to cap LB reg season minutes. I think this is a rookie HC issue, relying too much on the big star, and getting nervous when the score tightens.

I have seen similar defense in the regular season.. it's just that the execution is so much better. Cavs are playing well regardless.

I still don't like his rotations and feels like he doesn't put the right group of players at the right time. Does anyone know where Tavarez is? he isn't on the bench and he isn't getting garbage minutes..

i would assume he is in a suit on the IR list. he was game 1 IIRC

Not the case. The defensive strategy has changed. It's not just the execution. The Cavs didn't employ some of these strategies during the regular season because they take a lot more effort and aren't worth it in the long haul for an older team.

Only 12 can dress. Tavarez and Felder have been in suits behind or next to the bench for the entire playoffs. Depending on the game, either Dahntay Jones or James Jones has been held out. Can't see Tavarez or Felder dressing for a game unless there is an injury.

Thanks.
If there is no plan to have Tavares even dress then I guess letting go of Sanders was because of undisclosed issues and locker room problems.
I believe Tavares even in his current form can be a nice addition on the court but I guess we are rolling so why bother? I would let him dress over Jones or is that a disrespect to Champ?

As for the defensive scheme, I like it but I believe I saw parts of it in the RS... not to this extent though and it was a lazy attempt at that.
