Tyronn Lue has been fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still see national media guys who think he’s fine or deserves a “five year grace period” for the championship.. rarely do I see NBA writers criticize him like they do to so many other coaches and it’s just bizarre to me

The thing that I don't understand about Ty Lue is that he is supposed to be known for defense. Our defense has played much better in the playoffs but was ass the entire season.

His rotations are beyond abysmal, we have zero offensive scheme and our defense honestly, relies on players missing open shots. How many open 3's have Indiana had? I count at least 10 - 15 a game.

Ty Lue deserves to be criticized but won't be.

It’s bizarre to me how many here don’t see he’s a good coach. They know the lack of talent he has on the team. Most snicker behind closed doors regarding how Altman was scammed from Boston

And FWIW, for those that feel like a win is a win; I'd rather write this post coming off a win, then to write it coming off a loss going down 3-1 against a team like the Pacers, with no superstar talent, but that has outhustled, and outplayed this Cavs team with two ostensible superstars.
If you don't think Oladipo isn't a superstar just what are your standards? Oladipo has proven himself to be more valuable than your idol Paul George.

"Superstar" is a word that's very overused. Superstars are guys like LeBron, Durant, Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden. Those guys are superstars. Oladipo isn't on that level. He's a budding star. This is the first year that he has been more than a role player. Maybe he will turn into a superstar at some point in the future, but he's not one yet.

Q. If it's behind closed doors, how do you know they're snickering?

A. You don't. You just make crap up to support whatever your argument is at the moment.

It has been pointed out repeatedly in multiple threads that players almost uniformly seem to get worse under HC Lue than they were elsewhere. Where is the evidence that players play better under him? Because there's a whole lot of evidence that they play worse.

And before you use LBJ as an excuse, there were a bunch of guys (J.R.,Shump, Moz, and toss in Delly as a UDFA who contributed far more than expected) who played better here when Blatt was the HC, and while LBJ was still here. So LBJ isn't the variable.

The bottom line is, people are selling short just how good this Pacers team is to help justify their criticism of Lue. Take Lebron out of the equation and this Pacers team is way more talented than the Cavs roster, and unlike the Cavs they've benefitted from having their rotations set for most of the season. This makes them as cohesive as any team in the league. And Oladipo is probably pretty close to Kyrie's level if you take his offensive and defensive game as a whole.

It's both. Yes, I'd agree the Pacers are more talented than the Cavs without LBJ, but they aren't more talented than the Cavs with LBJ, and they've outscored us in this series.

I think there’s a lot of “wanting him to succeed” and “unwillingness to admit they were wrong” going on. Back in 2014, lots of people thought he was the next big thing in NBA coaching. Then Blatt happened. Then he took over for Blatt, and we won a championship. So I think a lot of people who aren’t watching closely still think of him as the next big thing, without updating their opinions of him based on data. People don’t want him to fail, and they don’t want to be wrong.

I think all that is likely correct. I also think that as a well-liked former player, other former players are much less likely to come out and criticize him.

Is "Playoff Lue" still a thing? lol

I mean I see the defense has definitely picked up, but how much of that is Lue, and how much of it being that in the Playoffs scoring is usually down due to teams having more time to gameplan specifically to an opponent?

He's had a great season; but he's gotta have more than one-year under his belt at this level of success. If/when that happens, then sure, I'd have no problem calling him a superstar.
