Tyronn Lue has been fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pushing the pace as much as he is trying to, it's probably not a good idea for Lue to be playing players for very long stretches at a time (Love played entire 1st quarter last night), or 40 minutes per game.

If the goal is to have Love injured before the All-Star break (Cedi too possibly given the way he plays both offense and defense) then keep it up. I think it's crazy to be playing two bigs in Love and Thompson 35 minutes or higher. I add Cedi in here too because of his effort level on both side of the floor.

I didn't realize he played Love the whole first quarter.

I totally agree with you. If you want to play that 0ace you have to lengthen the rotation. Shorten ty and Nance's minutes to get Any some time, and play Nwaba in short stints to give Cedi a break.

We have players that can come in for just a few possessions if you need to.

He has to do something about that second unit. We were able to hold our own against these teams until the second unit came in and killed momentum.
That was frightening. He literally did not do anything during the game. Let the lead blow and turn into a opposite lead. Took a time out. Came back with the same 5. And no change. Weird!

The 2nd unit will change once Nance and Smith get healthy. Both will bring a needed dynamic.

It is going to be frustrating when Zizic loses his spot and Dekker keeps his. Rather go super small with Nwaba or just do two bigs with Nance and Zizic than keep forcing Dekker.

Seems like lue found his new jeff green but worse

Zizic has a very polished low-post game for such a young guy. The problem the brass have with him is his slow feet and very low defensive IQ when it comes to help defense. This is the type of season where you normally try to develop a guy like this but the Cavs are rebuilding and trying to remain competitive at the same time. Once that dream dies I expect to see the young guys get more playing time. It probably won't happen until after the deadline though.

There is almost no help-defense team wide (Cedi in those passing lanes not withstanding). Players are caught in no-man's land between the paint and the perimeter. No one is rotating over to contain drives when the first man is beat. Guards are getting switched onto bigs within 4 seconds of a possession. Bigs are switched onto guards. There's wide open players in the corners that no one can get out to (or in some cases, there is a half-hearted jog to the corner). Players are confused about who they're supposed to be switched onto seconds into a possession, because there is switching off-the ball, oftentimes unprovoked, sometimes because the transition push dictated those matchups. It's rare to see a player reengage their assignment in these situations, even if there is some opportunity to do so (coaching likely dictates that). Occasionally there is a well timed double team in the post, but for every one of those, there are three+ breakdowns which lead to wide open shots.

If the brass thinks Z has very low defensive IQ when it comes to help, I wonder what they think about everyone else? If the personnel is struggling to run this scheme (still), maybe it's time to change it. Or maybe it can be taught better. I understand scoring is up throughout the league, but some of this stuff is adjustable and correctable even with the players already on the team. Some of it just screams stubbornness though... (could be off base there)

With that said, agreed that Nance coming in will help. He's a versatile defender. But even the most versatile stopper can't cover the entire floor. From what I've seen, the best defenders on the team aren't being maximized properly.

In any case...
I do like the fight of the team and there are players on it that will scratch and claw til the final buzzer. That's always good to see. 2nd quarter/end of 1st quarter lineup has been terrible (the lineup out there, yikes... less Dekker (no offense to him) please), but eventually it won't be nearly as bad. It simply can't be... right?

I do like this team's ability to score even without consistent three point making. But there are stretches of dry-spells that will likely persist all season long (not unique to the Cavs). Team free throw rate will likely go down/stabilize some (obviously very early sample size).

Began the season vs one top team and one decent+ team on the road, some good stuff to see, some of the same old problems too. Can't wait for the rest of the season!

Will be plenty of adjustments/tweaks as we move along. How quickly they come about is anyone's guess, but I think you're on the right track ,@Ben ,when it comes to rotational changes.

We all know that Lue loves his shitty defensive assistant Longo and that there were rumors out there last year about him when dying on that hill.

So how quickly does Dan get pissed and just shit can Longo? Would Lue quit? Is that even a feasible thing to do to try to get out of his horrible contract?

I'm just tired of the multiple years of trying the same defense and very rarely working. Still awful guarding the 2 most important areas, perimeter and in the paint. I understand us not having a player that excels in interior defense so we should focus on keeping shooters off the 3 point shots, right?

We have who we have this year. Good coaches adjust their scheme to fit there players, not trying to fit pieces that just don't go together.

Was optimistic about Lue being without the will of Lebron, but already to bail on him and his garbage assistants.

I still laugh at the folks who said “well now that LeBron is gone you’re going to see how good Lue can coach.”

Hahahaha! The guy is a fucking moron. Atlanta has been the absolute laughing stock of the league in the first week, and we just allowed them to come in our house and not only win.... but win by 20+ AND put up 133 points on us.

Good lord. Fire this idiot and let’s move on.

Weren't we just using this defense to preserve the older players? I can't understand why we are still using it. Hopefully Lue will come to a point where he realizes he will lose his job if he doesn't make the necessary adjustments.

From what I have seen from the highlights.
The team can score with ease. The problem is the defense at the rim and three point line blow. Also way to many turn overs. On the plus side it seems like we got a team of fighters. Just need the defense to be better

I don't think it is an issue for him. He has a contract and there is no way he can get another job.
