Tyronn Lue has been fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still laugh at the folks who said “well now that LeBron is gone you’re going to see how good Lue can coach.”

Hahahaha! The guy is a fucking moron. Atlanta has been the absolute laughing stock of the league in the first week, and we just allowed them to come in our house and not only win.... but win by 20+ AND put up 133 points on us.

Good lord. Fire this idiot and let’s move on.

It was always hilarious to me the notion that Lue was being held back by LeBron instead of propped up.

Lord.

I mean, he was LeBrons guy, so marks against LeBron for getting him installed.

But still...Lue owes his entire head coaching career to LeBron. From getting hired to winning games.

I mean, how many times did a little guy end up on Len? We’re not playing the Warriors every game. Stop switching everything and going small all the time. But he’s not gonna change at this point.

What was even more depressing tonight was watching Trae Young (a player with talent and b-ball IQ) destroy us while Sexton (a player with great attitude and athletic ability but talent and IQ a work in progress) looked disinterested. Sexton has no idea what he’s doing on both ends of the floor. More poor coaching but also I think Sexton’s effort level is not what it should be.

I asked to myself exactly the same thing. And this is when there is a man on the opponent. A lot of times we leave them wide open.

There was a short stretch at the end of first half when Cedi was on Trae Young and I thought it worked very well. Do I remember correctly? Because we did not use it then.

voluntarily giving the other team mismatches is probably why we are giving up 127 points a game

Lue/Longo defensive scheme prowess is legendary... Meaning it is just a myth and only exist in their minds... Might t have worked in Boston when you have peak Garnett plus defensive players like pre-injury Rondo and T. Allen but faltered after that team... A good scheme is something that would be fairly effective still even with average defensive players... Their system probably requires elite defenders to be effective at all

Its not just about the players...the league has changed. ADAPT. Especially when it hasn't worked for 4 years.

Most alarming thing about the switch of Sexton/Hill on a big was how often the Hawks squandered the chance to take advantage of the mismatch until they realized the Cavs weren't interested in switching back . Love jogs past Sexton who is struggling mightily to front Len, instead opting to chase a smaller journeymen to the corner. I turned off the game at that very moment.

For the switching everything to work effectively you need:

- The picture perfect roster of hybrid/athletic guys that can truly defend multiple positions

and

- A coaching staff that can teach players where to be when getting switched onto really uncomfortable mismatches, how to help others in bad situations, and how to scramble back onto better situations as soon as the ball is passed/reversed.

We have neither. We especially don't have the 2nd option.

This 100%.

Here is a good article breaking down the switching problem and last night's dumpster fire of a game:

Guarding the PnR is ridiculously difficult, it's why that play type is becoming more and more prevalent at all levels each passing year.

Sure, switching allows teams to create mismatches, but not switching often produces an even worse outcome.

What's a worse outcome than a dunk, point blank shot against a point guard or a wide open 3? A wide open 4 point shot? it's not available yet.

Those are only outcomes if you fuck up the switch. I won't argue that our defense is being taught correctly, I don't believe it is, but switching screens is not a problem.
