Tyson Chandler

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not high on adding any player that can't consistently knock down a mid-range jumper.

LeBron, Ben, AV, Boobie (altohugh that is any shot), darnell, JJ. Those are players on our team that can't hit a mid range J consistantly. We need a C, and we are not getting one on the level of TC through the draft with our pick around 30.

If Hickson is the player we all think he will be Chandler would be a GREAT center next to him. Chandler can play great D and dunk, thats all we need from our center. When our PF can hit the jumper like Hickson can/will. If we cant get Bosh I want Chandler.

1. Bosh
2. Chandler
3. Okafur
4. Amare
5. Kaman

LOL@Chandler being ahead of STAT/Okafur on your list.

In-fact, if we wait an extra year, Okafur could be very available for straight cap-room in the summer of 2010. We probably won't have money to sign a 2nd max FA, but we would have cap-room to straight up eat Okafur's contract and give Charlotte instant cap-relief. And I think Okafur would THRIVE at PF or Center here. The opposite front-court starter would need a jumper to compliment him, though.

I like the idea of going after a defensive orientated center, but Im not so sold on Chandler. He's young but not amazingly young and probably won't improve dramatically in the future. He's capable of pulling down Dwight type rebounding numbers and is capable of being an amazing defender, but I don't ever see him doing it.

But I still like the idea of going for this type of player. I just wish Charlotte hadn't improved this much over the past couple months cause like alot of people (including Mr Wine and Gold) I was going on prying Okafor from them this summer with Ben and Sasha. I still wouldn't say it's impossible, but for them to trade him now they'd want an improvement over Mek.

Although we're talking about bringing in new players, as opposed to analyzing our current rosters, what is the common thread of recent Ferry acquisitions? Outside of Big Ben, who was in a trade that netted Wally/Delonte/Joe Smith, we have targeted players that can catch-and-shoot as those are the shots that an offense built around Lebron allows.

But since you brought it up, Jackson and Hickson both have better jumpers than Chandler as rookies. Big Ben is not part of our future plans and the fact that AV doesn't currently have a solid consistent jumper (although its developing), is further evidence that we shouldn't build around a Chandler/AV front court. It's redundant and I don't think Chandler is nearly the fit for this team that Andy is.

Also, Lebron's jumper has nothing to do with this discussion, as we're looking for players that can hit open shots when he is double-teamed. How often is Lebron shooting wide-open, uncontested jumper? If it was as often as Tyson Chandler could be, I guarantee you would think he had a consistent jump shot. It's a little bit harder with three guys guarding you.

Anyone know what kind of condition Chandler will be in next year? He's had quite a few injuries this year and hasn't produced like he has in the past. If he's healthy and we could get him for Ben and maybe Sasha, then that would be totally sick.

Chandler has continued to have ankle problems and that's the reason OKC backed out of the trade to acquire him. There are mixed reports on whether it could be a long term issue that causes him to miss games or is something that he can get past and won't be a major issue. It does bring risk for any team that trades for him since it's been an issue for him for a while.

Chandler has taken a step back this season. I still say it comes down to what the price is to acquire him to determine if the Cavs trading for him is the right move. He'd fit and help but with his contract, possible injury issues and fall off in play; I wouldn't give up much quality or major assets to acquire him.

With the fact there isnt a whole lot of young 7 footers in the draft and in free agency, i could see Ferry taking a really hard look at Chandler and if Ferry believes his injuries arent major then i would expect him to get a deal done. A lineup of Mo, Delonte, Lebron, JJ, and Chandler would be a great lineup for the next 10 years.

You know who else was an injury prone player before we got him? Mo Williams, TC could be the same way playing less minutes = less chance for an injury.

I've always liked alot of what I've seen from Chandler. From haing worked with him for some short stints before he turned pro, I always have felt that he would eventually ascend to a higher level than he has to date.

You can win with him, and I see him being a guy that could reach his potential in the right situation. I've always envisioned that situation being one where he was in a front court where he could be allowed to swing between the C, and PF spots. Having offensive threats available at both SF, and the other big spot would be a huge benefit.

His offensove game hasn't developed as much as I thought it would, but, in a situation like ours could be one where he would fit better than anywhere else, in my opinion.

I've always felt that an Okafor or Chandler type of big is something that Mike Brown could utilize and appreciate greatly in how he would like to see out front court develop in the next few years while we transition JJ, DJ, and AV into more prominent roles, and Z, Ben, and Joe head towards retirement, and the end of their stays here with the Cavs. I think Zcould see two more years of action, while his court time decreases progressively over the course of that tenure.

Ben won't be around much past midseason next year is my guess. Joe will depend alot on how this offseason takes shape.

Jason Kidd would be a very likley addition this offseason. Seems like a mutual plan of attack at this point to me.

W&G is Tyson too similar to AV to work on this team though? I love Tysons abilities as you have me sold but as you said your self Z is basically done in 2 years and in the future we are going to have a rotation of Tyson AV DJ and JJ.... At that point JJ would be the only offensive minded big and even then he cant shoot a jumper

so I like Tyson and think he would be a good fit defensivly but question the fit long term... am I wrong to do that?

and great to hear about J Kidd cause my man is going to be awesome off the bench...I cant wait to see how sick we are next year

His value will never likely be lower than this summer. But obviously that's for good reason, how the hell are we supposed to know whether he's healthy or not? Would be great to avoid any more big mid-season trades. I love Big Ben on this team, and I'd love him to retire here, but I think Ben is the only asset big enough after this season to get a player of Chandlers caliber.

Thankls for validifying the okafor would be perfect fit for a Lebron and MB led team. I also agree about chandler, and would love to add him to our mix of young big men. I wouldnt mind seeing a run at Darko if Chandler or someone more appealing is not made available. At this point, we just need to bring in the young big bodies and see what shakes out...Best way in my opinion moving foward to use all 15 roster spots.

you're right i have the same concerns as you. i can't see andy playing alongside chandler that would be extremly ugly on the offensive end of the floor. both can't hit a jumpshot and aren't low-post scorers.....in a perfect world we somehow get bosh and chandler...

The thing I like about Chandler is that he is a very nice guy and good team player. And the thing I like about him the MOST is the way he would fit with this already #1 defense. We don't even really have a low post defender (bens gettin old) but I like Tysons help D and shot blocking ability as well as his MONSTER finishing ability. Basically a Dwight Howard in a sense. We defenitly need a replacement for Z but Z comin off the bench for the next couple years wouldnt be bad.
