Visiting the Q (from a land down under)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Great stuff there man. I am glad the night when well and everything worked out including Bron playing. You also got to see the AMAZING Omar Casspi. :chuckle:

Very glad you saw a win and were able to see Bron. Sounds like an amazing day. I cannot believe Krazie re-tweeted you! That is absolutely epic for a huge Bone fan. His tweet was funny and spot on. Enjoy the rest of your vacation and thanks for visiting the land.

Also, I have sat in those exact seats before, but on the other end. We ended up moving back about 10 rows to some empty seats so people would stop walking in front of us and standing there. I think you want to be in rows 5 or back for the best view. But still very cool to sit that close.

I know, right? I got to see the 2014/2015 AND the 2010/2011 Cavs on the one night - what an ultimate Cavs fans' dream! :chuckle:

You're definitely right, a few rows back would've been ideal. But for a one-time experience, it was still freaking amazing to be that close and feel "apart of the game" as opposed to just watching. Could hear and see everything so closely it was fantastic!

Simmy, you do realize that since they won last night you are obviously a good luck charm and you are therefore obligated to attend every other Cavs home game for the rest of the season, right? ;)

glad you had a great time Simmy. Its awesome to see somebody from as far away as you are excited to come to Cleveland. I enjoyed following on twitter yesterday. I unfortunately was out of town for work or I would seen if you wanted to grab lunch.

Maybe next time. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Looks like my time in Cleveland has expired guys.. Here at the airport now waiting for my flight to Charlotte and then another exhausting 5 hour stopover before heading off to New York. Thank you for an awesome and unforgettable 48+ hours. This experience just makes me even hungrier to return to the city and The Q sooner rather than later and has taught me the one thing I didn't quite know about the city: not only does Cleveland have the best sports fans in the world, but are among some of the most amazing and generous people that I've ever had the experience of meeting/interacting with.

Thank you for making this experience so memorable RCF - you guys really are too freaking awesome!

P.S I'll likely be missing from being active on the forum for a few weeks while on this vacation. If you're keen to see more from my post-Cleveland experience in the US, I'll probably post a lot more on Twitter @simmybeats so as not to clog up RCF too much.

My biggest surprise/disappointment? That so many people weren't even paying attention to the game.. I had a dude leaning forward beside me blocking my view of one side of the court talking to his friend beside him about how he's trying to not mix his personal life with his business life all game long. Didn't even bother looking at the court. People seemed to be there (floor area) for a chat and a drink, seemingly ignoring what was happening on the floor. I was so tempted to scream out: "do you guys even have any idea what you're missing!?" - it kind of annoyed me that people weren't as immersed in the game as I had hoped. And there was also a lot of distractions: between Ahmaad working out his next timeout, to the food vendors, to people just constantly walking around and hanging out during the game getting in the way etc - I'd imagine it would've been more "fanatical" in Loudville. In spite of this though, I wasn't easily distracted. Watching the guys drain jumpers from arms-length almost away from me in the 2nd half was unbelievable - I mean, they were right there making baskets off sensational ball movement, and it was such a pleasure to watch with my own two eyes.

I had a very similar experience going to my first NBA game. It was a 2010 RS game between the Cavs and Pistons in Detroit towards the end of the season (Cavs had already locked the #1 seed and Pistons were tanking). I was amazed at how little the crowd cared about the game. They seemed way more into the crap food they were selling at the Palace and the kisscams and whatnot. Very different experience from Europe. I haven't been to a playoff game yet. I am sure that would be different (at least I hope).

Simmy - I tweeted you, don't know if you saw...but next time you're in, check out the Fresh Brewed Tees store in the airport. Really cool shirts there as well.

Oh really? About FBT? I don't remember seeing the tweet :abnormal: what handle did it come from, I'll look it up? It's very possible I just may have missed it - I know I missed a few over the last few days so sorry about that. Tweet it again if you can and I'll get back to you.

We went to a game this year and paid a lot of money to sit down near the bench, actually very near Lebron's wife and son. It was obvious there were a lot of corporate seats there... crowd there was much younger than I expected and it was pretty tame. This was back when the Cavs were struggling and so there was that, but in general I liked the crowds better at the old Coliseum. It's not just because of smartphones. I've been going to the games for 30 years and there's been a steady growth in the distractions -- music, noise, flashing lights -- along with ticket prices. I went to one of playoff games in the Detroit series 6 or 7 years ago and even the crowd in our area was not paying a whole lot of attention until the last part of the 4th. Back when I first started going you could get a seat in the lower bowl behind the basket for $5.

Unfortunately they're serving the market that'll pay the most money, and that's that. Overall you probably get a better experience in the cheaper seats, although even up there you're going to see a lot of people doing everything but watching the game. Heck, the distractions are so omnipresent that it takes an act of will on my part to pay attention to the game.

So I finally got around to uploading some of the footage I took from the game a few weeks back. Thank God for smart phones, hey? Although I've only been to Cleveland once, these visual memories will last a lifetime and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to capture so much footage - the entire experience now becomes something I'll never forget.

I've just included footage of some of the pre-game and in-game action - I'll have to save some of the city exploration videos for the personal video vault for now :) Enjoy guys and thanks again!
