We have our first gay pro athlete.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wish he weren't a free agent right now. He might not even be in the NBA next year and coming out now and then never playing again is really no different than when John Amaechi came out.

I hope he does catch on somewhere, because an openly gay current athlete would be a huge step forward.

Did they have to choose that picture of him with Blake Griffin? :chuckles:

The Shaq one is a little better, but yeah...I think that was purposeful. Just saying...

The title should include "openly" and there was this guy who is either gay or bisexual, depending on when you ask him

But seriously, good for him. 20 years from now, our kids are going to think our generation was as ignorant as we think our grandparents are when it came to race relations. A generation after that, they'll probably have a chapter in history books. :chuckles:

Gotta imagine in an association of around 450 active players at a time, there's gotta be at least 20 gay guys playing. Might even be an average of one guy per team.

Good to see this happening. It won't be a big deal in 20 years, but right now it is, and Jason should be commended for it. It's so sad that someone would have to put on a facade for so long, but so uplifting to see somebody finally get that burden off of their shoulders. Athletes are role models, so it will be interesting to follow this story as more players comment on it. Here's to hoping that little-by-little this kind of thing loses relevance and the world can continue turning with us focusing on more important things.

I honestly had no reaction to this. I suppose that's a good thing.

yep it is. haha. I'm just glad someone finally broke the ground, i hope more people follow this and we can move past this topic eventually and stop making a big deal out of it -- it shouldn't be a issue at all.

good for jason, hopefully this is the start that gets this out in the open, and helps everyone to be more accepting.

if you really get into the numbers there are probably 200+(potentially a lot more) gay professional athletes in this country (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL), and it took this long for one to come out. the stigma attached to being a professional athlete is ridiculous . once again good for him

Most likely Cavs gay player? I know some of you were thinking it. Honestly, I would say Tristan Thompson.

Can we not start the random speculation into who is gay and who isn't? Take that shit back to middle school where it belongs.

FFS, for the most part, we're adults here.

Open-mindedness is a rare trait, especially with the older crowds and in the sports world. I love that Kobe has even come out in support. There is tolerance. This doesn't take away from his talents, but there are those who will claim this to be a travesty that is hurting sports, which is shameful.

Good for him.
