Chris Broussard on Outside The Lines: Homosexuality is ‘an open rebellion’ to God
by Ed Sherman
APRIL 29, 2013

Looks like Chris Broussard just made himself part of the story in the Jason Collins story.

During a special edition of Outside The Lines today, Broussard said homosexuality is “an open rebellion” to God.

Broussard said: “Personally I don’t believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or openly pre-marital sex between heterosexuals – if you’re openly living that type of lifestyle then the bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that that’s a sin. If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin – whatever it may be – not just homosexuality; adultery, fornication, pre-marital sex between heterosexuals, I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and Jesus Christ. So I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I don’t think the bible would characterize them as a Christian.”

As I write this, Broussard has yet to weigh in on his Twitter feed, which has nearly 650,000 followers. However, he now is trending ahead of Collins on Twitter.

Some samples among the many, many tweets:

FYI to Chris Broussard: Plenty of homosexual scientists, doctors, lawyers, educators, soldiers, etc. All human beings & free to live equally

Who would have guessed that Tim Tebow has a brighter professional future than Chris Broussard?

My sources tell me Chris Broussard will be covering sports for the 700 club next week

Chris Broussard is going to go from Outside the Lines to Unemployment Lines.

Not so quick with the last tweet. Don’t for a minute think that Broussard’s comment will get him fired. He was expressing an honest view. As much as I disagree with Broussard, I agree with this tweet from Doug Gottlieb, a sentiment that was echoed by others.

BTW @Chris_Broussard should be allowed to speak his mind, share his faith–as long as no hate is involved #OTL– even though I disagree

Still, Mr. Broussard is in for an eventful few days.

Can't help but think this will get ugly for LeBron's buddy Broussard.

Chrissy Brou-Brou went to Oberlin... No idea how he ended up such a biggot in a very gay friendly school.

My sources say Chris will be taking his talents to the EDD... Not a very intelligent thing to do. Tim Hardaway should send him edible arrangements for taking all the heat off of him.

I don't understand why Mark Jackson is getting killed? Are people not allowed to actually believe in the Bible anymore? He doesn't condemn Collins, he doesn't say Collins isn't a Christian. He doesn't say that the NBA won't accept his life-style. He says this "As a Christian man, I serve a god who gives you free will to be who you want to be… As a Christian man, I have beliefs of what’s right and what’s wrong. That being said, I know Jason Collins…. I know his family. I’m certainly praying for them at this time.”

He can't say that w/o getting crucified for it? Really now?

Maybe because people are very hypocritical with their interpretation of the bible? Why people put such stock into a document that is so ancient is beyond me. Lets all just freeze ourselves in time and pretend like we haven't discovered new information in the past few thousand years.

Mark Jackson did a much better job with his choice of words though.

Not that it's any of my fucking business, just curious if you knew before your son came out and how much, if any, bullshit from other people have you had to deal with.

Yes I knew from the time the time he hit High school, his coming out was me just asking him if he was. He was so relieved that I knew you could see the ton of bricks lift off his shoulders.

No one has ever been dumb enough to give the two Marines who have a gay child any shit. My wife and I are very protective and supportive of all the kids. I only had to fight with the school board when he wanted to start a GLADD chapter at his school, but they were completely respectful during the whole process.

BTW Mark Jackson and Chris Broussard have my respect, they have their beliefs and are sticking by them. I have no problem with that, their religion has no impact on my life or my son's. They aren't being disrespectful, and I can 100% respect other peoples choices and beliefs.

Just my 2cents

Yeah, I'm not a Christian, and I disagree with Broussard, but why is he not allowed to give his opinion on the subject and Christianity? Seems sort of hypocritical to denounce this guy's right to his beliefs. If you believe in the Bible, and that's what the Bible says... you're going to care about God's words more than you're going to care about being politically correct about Jason Collins.

The media in the Bay Area will use Mark Jackson's views as a political football. Here he represents the sentiments of many African American church goers, which has been in conflict with the largely gay friendly society around it. The media will use Jackson as a successful coach against a vocal fan base who go to Warrior games. If Jackson is smart, he will see this isn't a battle which is worth fighting.

Can we not start the random speculation into who is gay and who isn't? Take that shit back to middle school where it belongs.

FFS, for the most part, we're adults here.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

But why would someone just put any type of label, on anyone, without knowing a damn thing. That's just offensive. Not that being gay is "wrong" by any means.

Just the assumptions one is willing to make so loosely.

True.

Mark Jackson isn't exactly the authority on Christian principles telling him what's right and what's wrong, being a victim of an extortion attempt last year for some very un-Christian practices in which he was involved.

As the saying goes, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I don't even know if this serious. Religion has permeated society for thousands and thousands of years. People want something to believe in bigger than themselves. It will always exist. People will always believe in varying religious texts. Fighting a battle that tries to convince people that their beliefs are ancient or pointless is like trying to convince someone that the sky isn't blue. It's a pointless battle that will never be won.

I have no problem with people believing in anything. If you are going to speak out against something like this using the bible as a crutch, you might want to look yourself in the mirror (Mark Jackson). We don't condone slavery, which was thought of as being okay in the old testament; Yet we speak out against people for their sexual orientation?

God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. Where has this world come to? Does no one remember Sodom and Gomorrah? I pity everyone who does not have a relationship with Jesus Christ our savior.
