We talkin’ Pistol Pete

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pete actually went to one EC finals with the Celtics. James has only been to ONE Finals.
And three of the four trips James went to the WCF was twice with Westbrook and Durant in OKC and once with Westbrook in Houston. He had plenty of superstar help. But like Pete… NO RING!
Washed up Pete is not relevant for this comparison. He was basically out of the league when Larry took him to the ECF.

Harden was the best player on a 50+ win team for like 5 years. Pete couldn't do that

All I’m trying point out is you can’t call him worst than Harden because their career stats are basically equal. The best player on a 50 win team for five years??? What team for five years (minus a Westbrook and/or a Durant) was that?

Maravich was def hurt by the lack of a 3pt line but his metrics were awful. Harden we know can be the engine of a top 5 offense and top 5 team. Maravich empirically was incapable of that. It's not just boxscore numbers that matter

You truly can’t compare a jump shooter from the pre 3 point era to one from the 3 point era. It makes a transformative difference it’s practically a different game

If James Harden’s career gets roped into a Pistol Pete thread just for James Harden slander—I am here for it…

If you want to consider the WCF run where Harden came off the bench as a critical run then I dont know what to tell you. He was not an allstar level player at that point. Houston was a perennial contender when they had Harden even on garbo rosters where his 2nd man was EG. Sure, they had higher peaks with CP3 and the ghost of Russ.

Maravich never even made a confrence finals as more than a glorified Mo Williams so I think the debate is pretty clear there. If he was a winning player, how come he didnt win anything? Clear example of empty stats and flashy boxscore that leads to no real results.

Haven’t seen this many old white guys arguing about Pete Maravich since I accidentally walked into a Fantastic Sam’s back in college.

Here we go with the he didn’t win anything!! What has Harden won?? No NBA title and ONE WC title! There are a lot of HOFs that didn’t win titles!

Harden positively impacts the game tho. His boxscore metrics are very good. Nkt sure Maravich cracks top 75 but I dont know off the top of my head

Black barbershop ?

Unbelievable

The fact that he is in HOF says he impacted the game when he played. Again we are comparing apples and oranges. Harden will definitely go into the HOF but you can’t discount the talent of Pete who still holds the collegiate records for career points (3,667),
scoring average (44.5 and that’s without the benefit of a three point line), most FGs (1387) and most 50 point games (28).

Basketball HOF doesn't mean much for NBA tho. Like you said he had a lot of college stuff but that doesn't matter fir his NBA career.

You want a real spicy take? I don't think Pistol is better than Manu. In fact I dont think its close

Not a problem with that take as I don’t think Harden is better than Tiny Archibald.
