Week 1 (9/3/11): Akron @ #18 Ohio State

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You could have just said, OSU played a close game against a terrible opponent 2 years ago, and still ended up in the Rose Bowl.

We remember Chardon.

only problem is, you said we lost.

Joe Bauserman is a bad Tecmo Bowl quarterback. How did he win the job outright over the Anti-Pryor/Buckeye Cult Messiah?

If you're going to use these last two games against Akron and Toledo to justify Bauserman starting, because he hasn't thrown an INT because he won't throw to a receiver who isn't completely wide open, then take a look at Braxton's stats against Akron as well...

The last two games, and the spring.

They took numerous shots downfield yesterday. Albeit mostly unsuccessful, but a few of those were very nice plays by the defense to prevent touchdowns.

The running game has taken a huge step backward, and that is going to be hindering the offense more than anything. Hyde and Smith have almost no vision and missed numerous holes yesterday, trying to get to the sidelines instead of turning it upfield.

I'm more concerned with the youth of this offense as a whole, and the kicking game....ugh, don't even get me started.

Braxton should be used, period. But Bauserman has been a solid presence who hasn't turned the ball over, and as long as he keeps it that way he'll continue to start. You NEED that safety net with a young team, despite it not being the flashy young freshman everybody wants to see because of his star rating.

But if JB starts turning the ball over or being completely ineffective, and I think this week will be a good indicator, then you'll see Miller garner more time. Much like Boeckman/Pryor in 2008.

It doesn't even matter if Bauserman played decent, didn't turn the ball over, or that OSU even won the game. Braxton is better and is the future - he needs to get experience right now. We're not winning the national title and probably not the Big10 title either. It's imperative that he gets significant playing time this year. That should be Fickell's singular goal this year.

Tell that to Matt Barkley, he shouldn't have played right away and most at USC would agree that it HINDERED his development.

Simply playing isn't development for the future, he needs to be ready and comfortable in the offense which he doesn't appear to be at this point.

Braxton looked more accurate and had better zip on his passes than Bauserman. Urban was gushing over him throwing or running the ball.

He seems more than ready now. Point taken, but it's a risk I would take so that he doesn't use a year of development.

Should have challanged that

I hadn't seen it on here, but Braxton Miller apparently was banged up and didn't practice much leading up to last weeks game.

Which should explain why he didn't get time, in addition to the actual game itself being so unnecessarily close.

Either way, he practiced to day and should be full go for the weekend, so we'll see.
