Welcome Larry Sanders and So Long

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Indeed. To avoid the hack a Shaq all you need to do is be able to hit ~57% of your free throws consistently for it to on average be a bad strategy against us. That's because we average 1.136 points per possession on offense.

57% on average from the line results in (.57)*(2)=1.14 points per possession when fouled.

Now it's important to remember that's just an expected value and if there's a lot of variance in the free throw shooters percentage (i.e. they have a lot of times where they miss both cancelled out by a lot of times making both) then it can still be an effective strategy in spurts, but it is little more than rolling the dice for a guy who can hit 57% over a large span

So it's really not a high bar. And tbh it slows the game down which our guys prefer anyway. No long rebounds leading to transition offense. So there are definitely negatives to the strategy even with bad FT shooters

It's actually even better than that - teams do worse on offense (by nearly 0.1 PPP) on possessions after FTs, because the defense has time to get set (no fast breaks after FTs).

So it's closer to 0.52 or so.

Just ramp up his minutes each game and start him in two weeks, can't be as bad as Tristan, dude is long and has good defensive instincts esp when it comes to defending the paint

If Sanders can just play 8-10 minutes it would be huge. Start weening Tristan down to the minutes he was playing last season and seeing less of Frye would be nice. Plus he's an extra 6 fouls to deliver to people driving to the hoop

Also, I must say, there's no better way to get somebody prepared faster than throwing them into NBA game action. If he can work his way up to 12 minutes where he has a positive impact, that would be a gigantic asset for the Cavs. I know there are no guarantees, though.

I also can't imagine the Cavs throwing him to the wolves for him to get embarrassed/hurt. If they plan to give him time, I feel like that they may even have a little bit of confidence in how he's looking in practice.

They could have easily thrown Sanders out there for 10 minutes of garbage time last night if he would have been with the team. Maybe that's why they called him up?

I think it shows how depressing the defensive situation is right now that we called him up already.

I think it's more telling of TT's work-load. He is playing way too much. I think Sanders has probably looked solid in practice or else they wouldn't throw him in there to get trashed. At least I hope not.

TT looked pretty good after they said his knee felt better, but once Love went down he got worn down again. I am hoping he can get some rest to end the season because he does have a playoff gear.
