Anyways...

What this Cavs team needs is two straight years in the playoffs. The team needs to mesh on the court and then we will be contending for the finals in '08.

Thats more like it, good post

I couldn't agree more, people try to put them there now, and teams need time.

As far as where I think we stack up against other eastern teams, I think we're in the top 5. I see it going 1.Pacers 2.Detroit 3.Miami 4.NJ 5.Cavs 6.Bulls. But some of those teams still have a lot more to do in the offseason so it may change in the next couple months.

WELL for what it's worth-- i believe the pistons and the heat are better ...that's all i said.. then you kinda got all ron artest like :chuckles: i never said the bulls were better or anything like that to you as well..- i simply stated the other 2 teams "IMO" were the class of the east..

i believe it's a 2 team race, not 3

rosters pending of course ?

but IMO, the detroit pistons are the best team in the nba- they were 7 minutes away from winning another title (damn you rasheed, foul trouble)

i know losing larry hurts, but that team plays for each other on the court-- and i'm talking just about that starting 5 (billups, rip, prince, wallacex2) they seem to know where every one is, and what they have to do every time..

they will be back..........

again, i believe they are light years ahead of the pacers..

Gilchrist I was never really high on. Terrible me-first attitude. I see him turning into the next Stephon Marbury. Immense talent but no IQ.

So are you saying that you wouldn't want Stephon Marbury on your bench? Dude might be a ball hog, but he is an All Star ball hog. If Gilchrist can play like Marbury, then the Cavaliers would be insane to let him go.

We're looking for a PG of the future. Do you want a Stephon Marbury here for the rest of LeBron's career? Or even some crucial years? I certainly do not. I'd rather have a team player that's not as talented. Those intangibles add up. Lucas III is still talented and is much more of a team player.

True, but when did PTS and STATS mean more than WINS and CHAMPIONSHIPS? I see where your coming from, but if he is a cancer or only going to bring this team down with his attitude I ask you why? Why are you willing to sacrifice the TEAM for ONE player...

lol I sound like a fortune cookie ... who know how he will turn out. I say give him an invite if he doesn't WoW ya then you can show him the door. But I don't mind taking a chance on him. He's only played one good game agaisnt some scrubs and rookies so don't jump the gun...

I think we have to look at the sum = more then it's parts. We've basically addressed the biggest concerns to our team. I'll put it this way we won 42 games last year despite losing our second best player for the last half of the year, having a PG who quit on us, and worst of all one of the most incompetent coaches I've seen in awhile.

To this we got a new coach, a sharp shooting PF to stretch the floor, an All-NBA first team defensive guy, and possibly the best player in Europe. From a team perspective we match up very well with Detroit who had a tough time with us even when we didn't have outside shooters and have lost a HOF coach for a guy known as a regular season coach. Our bench is much MUCH better then the Nets with our additions. So, the only two teams which clearly are better then us now are Indiana and Miami. Miami with a healthy Shaq will always have an advantage over anybody. And Indiana while a mentally tough team has several players who get hurt often (JO, Tinsley) and guy with a screw loose. I like our chances and I think just because we lack playoff experience we shouldn't expect this team to atleast push for a top 4 seed in the East

O well, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, just think of it like this, if the Pistons are light years ahead of the Pacers, and the Pacers are better than the Cavs, how far are the Cavs ;)

I tend to think that suggesting we match up well with Detroit from a "team perspective" is an argument that can't yet be made and is a little premature. Also, I'd hardly suggest their coaching situation is any less certain then ours. We know what people claim are Mike Brown's positives. But we've yet to see him perform as a head coach. Lets not discount what Silas did. Before he came here, he was heralded for what he did with New Orleans (then Charlotte) and for exceeding expectations. We were a very good rebounding team and he got the most out of our bigs. And while I think he was excessively hard on players at times, the team prior to his control was erractic and run amuck with egos and individualistic play. He did well to improve players individually. He just couldn't improve them within the team concept to translate to more wins.

As far as rankings go, I like the Nets with a healthy Jefferson, another year of development for Krstic, and Shareef. Our bench may be stronger, but we don't know how our team (which is looking very good on paper) will translate on the court yet. I like Miami for obvious reasons. I like Detroit because they have leadership, chemistry, and all that they had last year except the guidance of Brown. Hopefully for their sakes, they can hold on to the lessons he taught them.

Indiana is deep, good defensively, and effective offensively. But they don't have the strength upfront like a Miami or Detroit to worry me all that much. I like our chances against the Pacers, in part because I've seen Z have enough huge games against them to know that we're not going to get eaten alive on the interior. Thats not to say they aren't a better team or not. They're solid and consistent.

Chicago is too unresolved with their free agent situation to know for sure, but they will be formidable as well.

I would be happy with anything from a 4 to 6 seed this year.

Here's what I'm thinkin our team's gonna look like next season...

Sarunas
Snow
Lucas III
Hughes
Sasha
LeBron
Ira
Luke
Gooden
Varejao
Donyell
Z
Oyedeji

Looks gooooood to me!

i don't like the nets-- carter jefferson didn't play well together... too many guys after kidd that need the ball ..

Carter and Jefferson played what, 4 games together? Getting steamrolled in Round 1 by Shaq was no time to start developing chemistry :chuckles:

Adding SAR isn't going to help their chemistry, but they will still be killer next year. Watch Lucious Harris sign with them and find his shot again, ugh.

Thank Paxson for trading away our first rounder. That would have been the young pg you're talking about.

I doubt it was his fault. With the owners telling Silias what to do, I'm sure they told him to get a 3 point shooter, and he tried his best.

Wow, a Paxson apologist? I didn't know such people existed!

As far as how good the Cavs will be next year goes, here's an unbiased opinion that even without a pg signed we're now third best in the east:

Do I think we're the third best team? With Snow as our starter? No. At the start of the year, regardless of who we have at the point? No. Too many new faces on that team, most especially the coach. They will take time to gel. By the time playoffs roll around? Maybe.

If Ferry can work a little more magic, James keeps improving at the rate he has his first two years, and Mike Brown gets them playing as a team, then look out!!!
