Re: What does it takes to get Darren Collison and Chris Bosh and some Pistons like Pr
Sorry, but this isn't NBA 2K. I could care less what so-called "position" a guy plays. I'm much more concerned with a players skillset.
The Lakers are starting 6-6 Kobe Bryant next to 6-6 Ron Artest and the Celtics are starting 6-5 Ray Allen next to 6-6 Paul Pierce.
If the Cavs started Prince and LeBron next to each other, they'd give teams fits with their length and have no problem guarding 2's and switching and trapping on the pick and roll.
You're right though. Prince and Hamilton are too old to win a title. They're much older than Pierce, Allen, Garnett, Sheed, Artest, Kobe, Fisher, Odom, and Gasol. Oh that's right, they're not.
Would you mind giving me a hint about the last "young" team to win a title? I'm still looking for one.
Both these guys are proven winners with rings on their fingers, and maybe most importantly are players that will play the roles they are asked to. I'm not a fool, Rip's contract is a burden and Prince had some injury issues last year - although it needs to be mentioned he played all 82 for 6 full seasons before last, so claims he is "injury-prone" are without merit.
I'm not saying it's a perfect deal, and it's surely not a slam dunk giveaway trade like Mo, Shaq, or Jamison. But I'll take Rip and Tayshaun over guys like Mo, Jamison, and Parker any day of the week - especially after seeing those guys play in the Playoffs the last 2 seasons.
I'm not understanding the $9 million figure here, unless you're including a luxury tax savings. Delonte's deal is for $4.6 and $500K is guaranteed, it's possible the Cavs would pay that portion of West's salary in a deal. I don't remember saying it's a not an asset.
Your math here doesn't add up. I apologize if I am missing something.
Is acquiring a guy who plays the same position as LBJ and on the wrong side of 30 really the type of deal that would induce him to re-sign?

Probably not, but Delonte's contract is basically a $9M giveaway to any team currently over the cap. That is a lot of instant money if you're a cash-strapped franchise, making it a pretty significant asset for a trade. In essence, if you add it to the $3M you're normally permitted to pay for a draft pick, it would let the Cavs pay a team $12M for a pick. That could be a very nice asset to either use, or trade with some other pieces/parts for a significant acquisition. A top 10 pick and JJ Hickson isn't a bad package.
