What the rebuild SHOULD look like..

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Very well thought out. I really like the Denver deal.

Al Jefferson would be a stupid trade. No use paying a man $11million dollars for a team that is gonna suck anyways, see Minnesota.

I do like the Mo to Indiana idea. But how about to Charlotte where the really need a PG now, something like Mo, and Powe for Nazr Mohamed, Gerald Henderson, and Derrick Brown.

I thought about that and Charlotte was my 2nd Mo idea..

The problem is while I'm sure Charlotte needs a PG, I don't think Mo is a Larry Brown type of guy..

The other reason I took the Indy deal over the Charlotte deal is because I'm not too fond of Gerald Henderson as a prospect (screams Grant Hill PHX days to me)...

But my 2nd idea with Mo went like this:

Cavs get: Tyson Chandler, Derrick Brown, Gerald Henderson

Blazers get: Mo Williams, Jamario Moon, Leon Powe

Bobcats get: Andre Miller, Rudy Fernandez, Joel Pryzbilla

That was my 2nd idea and it makes more sense, in my eyes, than a Mo-Charlotte straight up.. Portland fits Mo better and Charlotte fits Miller better...

What about this for a Varejao trade:

Cavs Get: SG James Harden and C B.J. Mullens

Thunder Get: C Anderson Varejao

I wouldn't mind that at all... The problem is that OKC now has Serge Ibaka ad Cole Aldrich who are there to fill the roles of what a Varejao would bring so Varejao doesn't really make sense there now with those two young guys...

My other Varejao deals were with Boston (Bradley, Davis, Wallace's contract), Milwaukee (Ilyasova, Delfino) and Memphis (Conley Jr., Thabeet)...

This is just a ramdom question but do you guys think it would be a good idea to trade for Al Jefferson. I heard they are making Johnny Flynn available so maybe a Jefferson and Flynn for Mo and Andy. Jefferson would bring some much needed low post scoring and Flynn has potential in Scott's offense.

Also I want Eyenga to play on this team next season. That would be the best situation for him as of now. Jamison also. There is really no point in keeping him considering we have no chance at a ring anymore. The only problem is who is going to take on his contract for something worth our while?

This is all depending on if we trade our expierenced guy and do a youth overhaul and from Grant, Gilbert and Scott's comments, i think we are still in a win mode now.

I'd much rather just let Hickson free and see what he can do than bring Jefferson in...

And while Flynn is a prospect, I'd MUCH rather go after Lawson first and then Conley Jr...

I'd love to go all Sam Presti and just start fleecing 1st Rounders all the while building up the Magic and anyone else that can beat Miami. While we bide our time, rebuild and ultimately dethrown the 3 goons in South Beach.

This is going to be a fun thread..

I'll throw my idea up a little bit later *goes to work to take down Smooth in the battle of the hypothetical rebuild" :chuckles:

what about potentially approaching ATL with the following:

  • AV
  • Shaq via S&T
  • $3mil of the trade exception

for

Josh Smith

We could then pair JJ and JS on the front line. JJ and JS are cut from the same cloth and fit into Byron's O very well.

We can then look at our G and SF positions, leaving us plenty of ammo (DWest, Mo, Parker, Moon) to reshape them with young players.

What about this for a Varejao trade:

Cavs Get: SG James Harden and C B.J. Mullens

Thunder Get: C Anderson Varejao

Why for Cavs: As much as I don't want to trade Andy, his value is probably at its highest level and he is probably our greatest asset. We get a good up and coming shooting guard, who will probably never be a superstar, but should be a very nice piece to put with JJ. And in Mullens, who I know didn't light the world on fire at OSU, we get a guy who can really run the floor and would provide a dangerous partner next to JJ for years to come.

Why for Thunder: They finally get the center they've been looking for to complete their starting five. As we know, Andy will not demand the ball, but will simply do the dirty work that they is required for a team to be good. Plus, Andy's contract is perfect for them as it only runs for 4 more years and pretty cheap for a starting center. As far as trading Harden, well, you have to trade something to get something, and they seem to already have a SG they like in Thabo. Mullens was only a project center for them, and they easily fill his spot with Aldrich coming in this year as well.

Why would they trade Harden?

Though I'm fairly sure Toronto's committed to keeping their young players (especially high draft picks) - if Demar Derozan is available for the right piece (say, an Anderson Varejao) - AND the Cavs had other trades in place to acquire big men (say, Mo Williams to Pacers for picks, Foster, perhaps Rush/big man) I could deal with a Varejao for Derozan/Jarrett Jack trade.

Hasn't Toronto/Colangelo always tried to trade for or had interest in Varejao? I remember Wine and Gold saying the one player he thought the Cavs would trade up for in the top 10 (if they did trade up) in 2 drafts ago it would have been Derozan. Then again, with Eyenga still somewhat of an option - who knows.

Then you could go with Smooth's proposed trade with Denver and acquire Lawson, Martin, and Balkman.

I don't think it would it would take Varejao to get Young. Though I'm not sure of the other assets we could offer that would be conducive to making things work with Phili.

Could just be grasping at straws but a Lawson/Derozan backcourt is a 'potential-filled' backcourt at that (though I hate to be using the 'potential filled' phrase)

Smooth I think is right on about the Center position - there obviously are no sure answers currently on the roster - and overpaying will most likely be the case considering the FA market to be.

Windy's gone on record (or perhaps it was Wine and Gold - whatever) that Grant is much more aggressive in trades than Ferry - and at this point - you may need to play a little more of a risk to gain an immediate and future reward. Things are going to get really interesting.

Smooth, love the 3-way deal with the Blazers and Bobcats.

I've been watching the Bobcats play summer league, and while I recognize it's summer league, you can just tell when someone can ball, and Derrick Brown can ball. Henderson is an athletic guard that would fit well into Scott's system.

I really like what you've posted in this thread and hope that this is the general direction that the Cavs now take.

This is just a combination of alot of things I've heard, not sure how well salaries match up or if something small may need thrown in here or there but here goes.

Cavs trade Mo Williams + #2 pick to Portland for Jerryd Bayless, Rudy Fernandez, and Greg Oden

Cavs trade Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair to the
New Orleans Hornets for Darren Collison + James Posey

Cavs trade Anderson Verajao + Danny Green to the
Orlando Magic for Marcin Gortat + Ryan Anderson

Cavs trade Trade exemption + #1 pick to the
Philadelphia 76ers for Andre Iguodala

Cavs after all trades

PG) D. Collison, J.Bayless, D.Gibson
SG) A.Iguodala, R.Fernandez, A.Parker
SF) J.Posey, J.Moon, J.Williams
PF) JJ. Hickson, A.Jamison, L.Powe
C) M. Gortat, G. Oden

I think that is a very good team, the backcourt defense could be great!!
If Hickson develops and the team meshes well could be contenders.

We also could resign Shaq and still believe we have the MLE to use.

I think you have Mo Williams confused w/ Chris Paul.

I would love Collison but the only way they said they would trade Collison is if we take Okafor and I dont see us re-building with that contract.

I'd give my left nut to have Ty Lawson, Thad Young and Brandon Rush on this team.

Great job Smooth.

how would you adjust your rebuild now that we have the trade exception and future firsts.

Here's the thing, no superstar is going to come to cleveland without something great already in place. The only way that's going to happen is if we get lucky through the draft. Stockpiling draft picks is the only way i see this happening. Let's be real here, the law of percents and averages says we have to strike gold sometime, just ask Mr. Paxton. :chuckles:

In all seriousness, I don't want to see the cavs in the 8th seed followed by a first round sweep. Lets get young and talented through the draft and run the 3 fags out of the gym.
