What to do with the TPE?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
so the Celtics:
1) unnecessarily cut salary
2) trade future 1sts even tho they are v old
3) get significantly worse and basically give up hopes of contending

I'm sure they'd go for that...

The whole premise of that idea was for Boston to use the instant cap room cleared to go get someone like Marc Gasol. So no, they would not be unneccessarily cutting salary, yes they would be giving up picks to make it happen, and no, they would not be getting worse (in my opinion). Definitely a long shot, especially since Ainge seems hellbent on going after someone like Paul or Howard. But really, when you think about it, that's quite a roll of the dice. I think my idea presents and interesting alternative strategy for them. Kind of a moot point though with the labor situation going on.

heres what we do with it: we warm our hands as we burn it in the metal barrel we call our progression as a team, grant's urine providing the gasoline in which we ignite it.

Good God. If all of your posts are going to be as negative as this, please refrain. I don't understand the need for such an overreaching and overarching negativity before even allowing the players involved with the moves have even suited up.

You don't have to like the moves. I'm not supporting our front office just because they're the front office. I too wonder about the direction sometimes. However, we are not GMs. We do not have access to all of the information that our front office does. But at the same time, please stop posting shit like this.

So any word on an extention for the TPE?

Jesus Christ dude, chill out.

It's fine if you don't like the moves, but damn, over-react much? Step away from RCF for a while & re-collect your thoughts.

Yeah except the cap room created isn't nearly enough to sign Gasol.

i think if there isnt a trade exception in the new CBA, we should be rewarded a 1st rd pick for compensation

Allen and O'Neal will be making over 16 million dollars next year. Who knows what the new rules will be pertaining to all this shit though.

And they're already at $72M without signing their draft picks.

The NBA isn't going to set a hard cap of like $70M+ or something. There's no way to make him fit without blowing up the team and even then it would be tough.

How did you magically determine that? What about all the other teams in the NBA that have Traded Player Exceptions? How do you fairly gauge compensation? You can't.

Look, I wanted them to use it too. I wanted them to acquire some valuable asset. But it takes two to tango and if something wasn't done, it wasn't done. It's not like some other team swooped in and used their TPE. The fact of the matter is that they also had 354 days to use it (July 11th, 2010 to June 30th, 2011). It's not like we just obtained it and it was stripped away.

I think the best value out of the TPE would be to piece it off.
7 mill for this guy
5 mill for that guy
Maybe 2.5 for another guy

I've been thinking along these lines as well, getting 2 or 3 players with out TPE which might bring back some late first rounders or second round picks.

It wouldn't be the big splash many people wanted with the TPE but it would be getting something in return for it. And with good scouting could be a good move compared to doing nothing.

That would leave us with two or three guys with perhaps overblown mid range contracts that teams are trying to cut down on. I have concerns about how they'd affect our own team's growth, but if you get Luke Walton type guys who don't quite earn what they make, some of these guys might fit in to an extent, but we can also display them and flip them to contenders around the trade deadline some year if not this, for a (possibly additional) second rounder or late first. I guess it depends on the player, and Luke Walton probably isn't a great example considering the Lakers usually have money. But you get the idea.

The new CBA will determine the value of our TPE. But in any case the TPE will have some value and I would advocate spinning it into draft picks via a few bad contracts if no better options present themselves. If all else fails, I hope the Cavs consider these possibilities. But not at too much cost in development (pt) of the guys we want going forward.
