You think this is as good as these 4 get?
Together? Yes. Unless they can manifest assets out of thin air to add a good SF and fix the bench. And even so, the Core Four have the opposite of complementary skill sets.

Koby put all his chips in on Mobley's development. It is very important for Mobley to develop a consistent jumpshot for this core to work. At least a freethrow line jumper would offer more spacing for dm and dg. The cavs have 2 more years to see if this core will bring playoff success. After that they have 4 young pieces to trade and start over again.

Given their ages, I expect Mobley to improve greatly and garland to also get better. If this exact team stays together for 2 more seasons, I’d be stunned if a first round exit is the best they do.

They have 1 year. In 2 years, Mitchell can walk in free agency. It's a reason why I think Koby has to switch coaches now and bring in players around our top 3 or 4 that fit what that coach wants. A star player isn't going to sign an extension on some theory that a new coach will solve the teams problems. If things don't go well next season, we will have to hope some other star becomes disgruntled and him and Mitchell want to play together.

But are they capable of winning a title which is all that matters

depends entirely on Mobley. If he's HOF level, then they have a shot. But no one wins without a HOF level player (or 2, or 3).

First thing we need to accept is this "Big 4" bullshit we fell for was silly. Theres no Big 4. We have a lower tier superstar in Mitchel ( btw i love him) but ya lets be honest he probably isnt a top 10 player. We have Garland (top 30-40) player and a fringe all star. And then theres our front court-2 role players. Our roster after those 4 pieces? Pure shit. Ill be honest, I fell for the Big 4 BS.

we just witnessed it. One will be gone before end of next season. My guess is it is JA.

I think we’re gonna find out this season.

As far as age and development goes, this roster would be at its prime 2 or 3 years from now when DM & JA are still in their prime and DG & Mobley should be entering theirs. But if we don't make progress in the playoffs this year, I suspect we will make changes before that. Contracts will be dicey and, unless we win big this year (ecf or better), questions of fit will continue and probably bring about change to the core 4.

Should win a title, possibly two. But there's a lot of talented young teams out there.

Cavs fans spent the offseason laughing at the a Lakers, who will have to trade their future just to keep LBJ happy... Then the Cavs turn around and deal away 4 1st rounders and their starting SF on a good deal for an overpaid John Starks 2.0.

Edit: someone just pointed out this clears out SF for Luke Travers. I rescind my prior opinion, good job clearing the deck for the Australian Rambis.

Not trying to call you out or anything -- RCF just happened to open for me here and I happened to read your post. The "overpaid John Starks 2.0" line is a tremendous hot take. Well done even if it is 18 months late.
