Who is Chris Grant interested in signing / trading for?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know this is crazy, but when the time comes, I would give a guy like James Harden close to a maximum contract. Crazy at first glance, but a kid who is 23, athletic as what, fundamental, takes care of the ball, good shooter from everywhere and can play good D. There have been FAR worse max contracts handed out to guys on the wrong side of 25 (Joe Johnson, Rashard)

We are going to have to reach for a guy to come to Cleveland. When the time is right, you have to make a FA signing. Harden might not happen because he's due for an extension THIS year and as many of you have pointed out, our big FA signing might not happen until 2013, but this has been the plan all along, over-pay a great young talent to add into our core of draftees. Say we get lucky and grab Harrison Barnes, MKG, or Jeremy Lamb (who is still going to grow to 6-7)

Kyrie
Harden
Barnes
Thompson
Andy

THAT is how it is done.

This EXACT example does not have to apply, please don't make this post something it is not. It is merely intended to illuminate the fact that we are going to over pay to add one more BIG chip to this puzzle someday, whenever it may be.

I keep getting miffed every time someone throws out a future lineup and it includes an Andy-Thompson frontcourt. Makes me cringe.

As of right now Kyrie Irving is really all got going forward if were talking about building a contending team. Anderson is just a tad too old to consider him a piece in three years when we are talking about contending. Tristan Thompson on the other hand I feel can be a starter in this league on a contending team but he is probably not going to be a big time scorer and his game will focus for on the defensive end and rebounding. So when this team gets constructed they have will to focus on offense end a tad more when looking at the C position. As of right now we do not have much on this roster that I forsee will be good enough too even sniff out the 2, 3 and 5 positions on this team in the coming years.
Do not get me wrong I see alot of poetential in Alonzo Gee atleast in terms of poetentially being a good defender and atleast average scorer. He does alot of things will just needs to get more consistent with shot selection. The sad thing his shot selection isnt bad but rather he passes up too many of the shots he should be taking within the flow of the offense. A perfect example was against Miami last night right before halftime he caught a pass on the left wing for a fairly open 3 and put it on the deck with 3 seconds left in the half and then forced an akward jumper at the buzzer. He also drives to far into the paint and gets lost too easily but at times is able to finish with near alot of strength. But Alonzo is really the only guy that i see that has the physical ability and to this point a outside chance to cling onto this team going foward.Between Casspi, Sessions, Samuels, Gibson, Eyenga, and Erden its a mixed bag of decent role players and really really long shots of finding a hidden Gem. At this point in time every player is a lottery ticket and if we hit one it will be a unexpected bonus.
Going forward with this team and hopefully a decent lottery pick this year and next year most of this team will be developed with the draft. We may get a shot to sign one or two free agents at some point too. In my opinion if the Cavaliers are signing any player to a max contract that was not on there team before hand is probably overpaying to get that player. But we may not have a choice in that matter if that piece presents itself but it will be real interesting how the current front office constructs this team going forward.
