Why is Jordan the Goat?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lol one on one
Why LOL one one one?

Aren't we talking about single greatest player of all time?

I would take prime Jordan #1 if we were starting a team as well.

By that logic I guess we could take Kevin Durant over someone like magic. Nobody would ever take that seriously.

I wouldn't.

You've said that Jordan is the "unanimous GOAT" and that's not the case.

The greatest of all time could mean 10 different things to 10 different people. Personally I think he is, but I'm not going to judge people for having a dissenting opinion.

It isn't possible for there to be a hardened fast list of criteria when you're asking people for something that is opinion based.

By the way, who do you think is the best player ever?

I'm undecided on who is #1. I just don't understand how easily people can say Jordan is undisputed best. When I ask why they give me really silly reasons. When you look at a top 10 list of the greatest players the players are all so different from each other. Not just style of play but career achievements.

I agree with you on that.

I think once you get the top 10 players, it's kind of a matter of personal preference. You could say one of like 7 or 8 players and it would be had to argue it.

Yeah but your preference should be consistent.

Well if thats your criteria for determining the goat how exactly is kareem the second best. No one has consistent criteria.
What is my criteria ? I didn't mention one..

I guess for Kareem its Points, Rings, MVP's, championships with multiple franchises (not major but is along the lines of going 6 for 6), 19x all star, all defensive team 5 years... Kareem (like Duncan) really goes unnoticed amongst so many.... Everyone is either looking for the flashy wing guy or the dominant brute in the middle...

Now I still give Jordan the edge because he was just as dominant of a scorer, did win 6 rings, defensive player awards, MVP's, as well as the fact that he changed the game in the 80's with his individual play... Plus he was one of the guys that normally came up big when you needed him to...

What I don't believe separates him from some however is that he went 6 for 6 in the finals... Like that's the new card people want to play...Sure it's something you can put on the resumé (like Kobe scoring 81) or Kareem with the MOST points ever or LeBron and Kareem leading multiple franchises to a championship

The rings mean a lot but it's just about the rings... I mean if Ray Allen doesn't hit that 3 in 2013 it pretty much means Duncan went 6 for 6.... Means nothing to me... Magic Johnson played for the championship 9 times between 1980-1991 and won 5... If he was to have won 2 more and gone 7 for 9 he may just be considered the greatest ever...

All these careers are so different but it appears you're not the greatest ever unless you have 6 rings and you went 6 for 6 to get them.... It's so subjective but just such a narrow minded view in my opinion....

Some awards didn't exist until after guys like oscar, chamberlain, and russell retired. I don't think it's fair to use them. It would be like new awards existing 30 years from now Lebron and kobe never had a chance to win.

Again it's subjective...

Not only awards but the rules were different, no 3pt shot for a lot of these guys was around (could you imagine 80's Jordan with no hand checking ?)---innovations of equipment, training staffs, nutrition, means of travel, expansion of teams...

Like you could tell someone Jordan was the greatest ever and they'll tell you Wilt was or Oscsr and Elgin Baylor were just as good...

What I give Jordan credit for is being considered the greatest ever while he was currently playing in a modern era...

Most people today still have this fantasy that Babe Ruth was the greatest baseball player of all time.... There's not that many people around today that saw him take a swing... Jim Brown (maybe Jerry Rice) is considered to be the greatest ever at football... There's a mystique about the stars of yesteryear but Jordan was able to be considered the greatest as he was riding the ride....

Uhh so were the guys who played in the 60s lol. At the 50 greatest players ceremony the announcer called wilt the greatest player ever.

Rob, you kind of ignored the point I made in the second post in this thread.. You again ask, why is Jordan the best -- and I ask you in return -- have you ever watched him play basketball?

It seems you haven't.

And I don't mean live, I mean period. If you watch him play the game, you'll understand quite quickly why he's considered the best player of all time.

Why don't you give me your opinion instead of asking me if I saw him play.

I just want to stir shit up....

Who wins, prime LBJ vs prime MJ, one-on-one, call your own fouls, best to 20?
