Windhorst on Trade Possibilities (Tues., Feb. 17)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Personally, I see our only move getting a small piece like a jared dudley with our trade exception. As excited as i am to get an amare level player, the reality is this most likely will not happen. Kerr finally told Sarver that he is ruining the team, and let him do what he is paid to do. In no way should amare be traded, but owners are known for doing stupid things.

Funny thing to me is, why would the clippers want to keep Camby? I would think any expiring plus draft picks should be able to get him as age will catch up to him before the clippers make the play offs again. But, they keep saying he isnt avaliable, which defies all common sense,...maybe thats why teams keep asking just to get the door slammed in their face. But then again, when has anything the clippers done made sense.

I don't think our best hope would be that Joe Smith is bought out...

We have a huge expiring contract,a solid amount of draft picks, a few talented young guys, and a need for another bigman, or another talented swingman(able to defend and shoot).

We should be able to really improve our team in the next couple of days. If we don't I will be disappointed. There are several options out there, we should be able to add a piece or two without even getting creative.

I'm not demanding a big name, just a move that will make us better than we are right now.

I wouldnt trade AV for Chandler thats kinda pointless on our part and N.O.'s part......Plus they would want a surplus of young bigs so that means J.J. would have to go.

If Windhorst stops reporting on Wednesday night's game against Milwaukee to start investigating a 'trade in the works' like he did last year.....this site might crash.

Yeah, so far this has been a boring trade deadline.

This article from Windhorst does not help. He seems like a big pessimist. He names a handful of players but basically gives us a zero percent chance of landing any of them?

I am also concerned with some of the reasoning he gives for certain players. He says we can't get Jefferson because we got Mo Williams already from the Bucks and now Mo is helping Cleveland, so I guess Milwaukee can't deal with us again?!?!? Milwaukee isn't concerned about that, they just want to cut salary and start figuring things out for themselves. If we have an expiring contract they can use then why not?

Same situation for the Wizards. They desperately need salary cap relief for the mess they are in. In these tough times GMs just might pull the trigger to get something done.

I am really appauled by Windhorst's pessimism. Maybe the Plain Dealer has in under much more pressure than the ABJ ever did.

It's hard to read what the Cavs are going to do. Windy keeps saying no trade, W&G alluded to the Cavs having several solid backup options if the Amare deal fell through... Some of the guys I thought would be a part of those backup options like RJ, Windy clearly spells out are not options.

I have a hard time believing with the economy tanking, there is not some team out there interested in dealing for expirings like Wally and Snow. I guess I just don't agree with the star or nothing mentality Windy says the Cavs are taking to the trade deadline (if he is even right there, who knows)

I like the core of this team but it's clear there are areas we can improve and letting two expirings like Snow and Wally go to waste seems like a mistake.

The article says two years ago, Ferry had a trade fall through at the last minute. Who was involved in that trade?

not really. NO is in the same position that PHX is in and they just want to dump money. The rumor right now is Chandler for Wilcox, Smith and a first. I think if we offered AV it would be better the the OKC offer. With Chandler we would have Z's replacement once he retires...

I think he was talking about the 10 player deal that Ferry pulled off at the last minute last year.

^Actually I think he was referring to the Bibby deal that fell through

That paints a bleak trade picture, however, a lot of deals come out of nowhere so I still wouldn't be surprised if we had a new player or two by Thursday afternoon.

My attempt at speaking Windhorst-ese

Amare Stoudemire is probably out of the picture.

This I completely agree with. It's going to take something rather strange in order for us to see Amar'e in a Cavaliers Uni. Sarver is going to have to, once again, change his mind and make a rash decision to dump his star player for relief. He can't own the Suns if he doesn't have money.

Marcus Camby, Clippers: A strong defensive player who can also score inside and out, this is the kind of big man the Cavs would want. Plus the Clippers probably want to dump salary. However, it is unclear whether he's truly available and recently the answer has been "no."

Deal is outstanding right now, the owner has to give the go ahead. Honestly, I think there is a very good chance he becomes a Cavalier, in my opinion.

Chris Kaman, Clippers: Only included because fans keep asking about him. He's been out months with injury and has a contract that runs past 2010. 0 percent chance.

All true. No need for him, especially this year.

Vince Carter, Nets: Forget what you read elsewhere. Cavs are not interested. Doesn't sound like the Nets will make any trade.

To me, this sounds like a smoke screen. I think if the Nets called up the Cavaliers right now, Carter for Wally, it'd be a done deal. From all reports, the Cavaliers are very interested, but the Nets want more than Wally. Doesn't matter anyway, seems like if Carter goes anywhere, it's to the Spurs.

Richard Jefferson, Bucks: There's a chance he'll be traded but not to Cleveland. Bucks already gave the Cavs a free big-time player.

Biggest lie I've seen from Windy in a long time. The Bucks aren't going to trade him to Cleveland because we already got Mo Williams? Makes no sense in my opinion, and I wouldn't be shocked if Richard Jefferson did end up here. Not as likely as Camby, but certainly a possibility.

Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, Wizards: GM Ernie Grunfeld told the Washington Times: "Over the course of the last four or five years, we established ourselves as a winning organization, and we want to keep going that way. Once we get everybody back, get all of our pieces together, we can be a very competitive team." In other words, no trade.

Ernie Grunfield knows he can't get equal value for any of them, so neither will be traded. If he thinks that team can really compete, however, he's nuts. Only one I could see traded is 'Tawn because of his awful, terrible, stupid contract, but really doubtful they'd hand him over to us.

Brad Miller, Kings: The Cavs could've had Miller anytime in the last month if they wanted. They are still considering it but aren't sure if he's that much of an upgrade considering the risk to team chemistry. He's also not having a very good year, is in questionable shape, and is coming off a drug suspension.

No chance in hell.

Tyson Chandler, Hornets: He's an intriguing name, however the Hornets will want a quality big man or two in return and it is questionable how effective his complete game is.

Possible, but sounds like the return would be out of the Cavaliers asking price. The Cavs will probably stay in contact just in case, might even make an offer, but I cannot see how he ends up a Cavalier, personally.
