Wizards trade #5 pick to Minnesota

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Holy crap. Just commented on this in another thread, but I didn't realize that the T-Wolves got the 5th pick as well.

Washington just pissed away their pick.

edit: Wonder if the T-Wolves plan on using both the 5th AND the 6th pick. Wonder if that 6th pick can be had somehow.

Shows how sucky people think this draft is when you give up the 5th pick for salary relief.

Me thinks Minnesota wants a PG...

wow so minny has picks 5 AND 6 and 4 first round picks total.

Wolves new GM pulled of a nice trade. I think Wizards could have did much better for the 5th pick.

Wow, nice trade for the Wolves. With Jefferson and Love, if the two players they draft pan out, they could be pretty good in a couple years.

Foye looked pretty good at times last year and with Mike Miller there guard forward combo looks sick.. Arenas/foye/butler/miller wow..

I love how 95% of the basketball world sees that Washington needs to rebuild, but all of those 5% who want the Wizards to flush the future away for one or two more years of first round exits are employed in Washington.

Dilusional.

This had been rumored for a couple of days. The word has been that Minnesota wants to package the #5 and #6 picks together, and move up to #2 to select Ricky Rubio.

However, Andy Katz now reports:

The Wolves would then keep the draft pick and their own selection at No. 6 and not try to package those to move up, a source told ESPN.com's Andy Katz.

I don't buy it. That's been the discussion for a couple of days, and I would be surprised if it didn't happen.

If it does happen, it would be a huge coup for Memphis if they can pull it off. Several of the players that Memphis is considering at #2 will also be available at #5 and #6 - James Harden, Tyreke Evans, Jordan Hill. I can hardly believe that the #2 pick is worth the #5 and #6, especially in this draft, but that may well be the motivation here.

If Minnesota doesn't move up, it certainly increases the possibility that they would move either the #18 or the #28 pick. It's very hard to imagine that Minnesota would keep four picks in the first round.

By the way, the salaries in the Washington-Minnesota trade are pretty much a push next year, but in 2010-2011 Washington sheds $7.2M in Songalia and Pecherov's contracts. Not bad.

That wouldn't be surprising to me. The Wolves and Grizzlies have that history from last year and Rubio obviously doesn't want to go to Memphis. That would work out well for both teams imo

The Wizards really think they are good enough to win the EC.. :chuckles:

So much for acquiring Amare or Bosh with their lottery pick.

I'm loving this deal...Actually Joel...What is being said in the local papers and radio is that we will package #6 and #18 to Memphis for The #2 and Take Rubio @ #2 and then possibly Packaging # 5 and #28 to move up to # 3 and Take Thabeet...Kudos to David Khan for pulling this off..One hell of a deal

Minnesota wins - They can build a great team there.

Wizards have improved to try to contend for ec however they have no chance in hell :S

Only the Wizards...

While they are at it, they need to make Nick Young accessible. Dumbasses

honestly...

PG - Arenas
SG - Miller
SF - Butler
PF - Jamison
C - Haywood

6 - Foye
7 - Blatche
8 - Stevenson

Coach: Flip Saunders

... I see that as a very good offensive team. A playoff team for sure... but honestly. Championships are won on defense and trading Etan Thomas (thir best defensive big), Darius Songalia (Thir Cav killer) .... I really dont see why they think they can win a championship with this team. Its a playoff team. 2nd round at best. But thats it.

They have no true big man who can play good defense or score. I mean this team is still a VERY soft team.
