Count me in as someone who definitely wants the Cavs to pursue this:

Houston Rockets trying to trade Thomas Robinson to free up cap space for run at Dwight Howard

The Houston Rockets are determined to trade forward Thomas Robinson – the fifth pick in the 2012 NBA draft – to create salary-cap space for the pursuit of Los Angeles Lakers' free-agent superstar Dwight Howard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Rockets have made clear to multiple rival teams that they plan to accept the best offer to move Robinson and eliminate his $3.52 million salary for the 2013-14 season.

Without Robinson's salary, the Rockets will have the space to offer Howard a maximum deal starting at approximately $20.5 million a season.

Houston is competing mainly with Dallas – and possibly Golden State – to lure Howard once free agency commences on July 1. Howard has become increasingly intrigued with the Rockets as a possible destination, sources said. Houston's supporting cast, including James Harden and Chandler Parsons, is one of the reasons.

The Rockets are targeting teams with the cap space to absorb Robinson's contract. The Rockets are trying to cobble together a package that could include assets such as a trade exception, a draft pick or non-guaranteed contracts that they can be unloaded, sources said.

The Rockets are the second team to give up on Robinson since he came out of Kansas considered one of the most prepared prospects in the class. Robinson, a 6-foot-10 forward, struggled to earn time on the lowly Kings and never showed the Rockets the promise that led them to trade for him in February.

Robinson, 22, averaged 4.8 points and 4.5 rebounds playing a combined 70 games for the Rockets and Kings. Sacramento traded him to Houston in a package that included Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt for Patrick Patterson, Cole Aldrich, Toney Douglas and cash.

A frontline potentially of Noel, Zeller, Varejao, Thompson and Robinson would be real nice and compliment each other real well.. Not to mention they'd be well set-up to move on without Varejao...

The last top 5 pick that moved teams this early in their career? Drew Gooden

can't be a good sign that T Rob is moving on again

Re: Woj: Rockets trying to move Thomas Robinson

All it costs is cap space? Count me in. Everything I saw during draft time labeled him as a gym rat. Perhaps he just needs proper coaching to develop like our other gym rat... Tristan Thompson. To get that type of prospect for cap space is one of the reasons we have cap space.

Re: Woj: Rockets trying to move Thomas Robinson

Totally random idea, but Parsons + Asik for the #1 pick. Who says no (in the case that Houston gets Dwight)?

Re: Woj: Rockets trying to move Thomas Robinson

Take him, develop him, and possibly trade him later as a future asset. 6'10 240 pound athletic specimen with good rebounding instincts? Sign me up and put him into our developing big man rotation.

Re: Woj: Rockets trying to move Thomas Robinson

I brought this up a few times in the Dwight Howard threads.

We're actually one of the few teams that might be willing to take on Robinsons salary and help Houston get Dwight in the process. But Grant should demand either a future 1st rd pick or Terrence Jones be included in the package.

Cavs have some non-guaranteed contracts. They could also just absorb Robinson's salary. Plenty of other teams could do the same if the Rockets just want to get rid of him.

So, it will probably come down to what team is willing to offer the Rockets the most attractive draft pick. Cavs have the most attractive 2nd-round pick in 2013. But I imagine the Rockets are looking for a 2014 first-round pick if they can get one (among other teams, Charlotte owns a couple 2014 picks that could land pretty high).

I doubt that either the protected 2014 Kings pick or the 2015 Grizzlies pick is going to be enough.

Doubtful that the Rockets are going to be sending out extra assets to another team to assume Robinson's cheap contract.

He's only making three million, and I'm pretty sure the Rockets want something in return for him.

How many people here would do #19 for Robinson? I'd at least consider it.

Then why even mention it in this thread? :chuckles:

More specifically, the draft happens before Dwight picks a team. So, the terms of the idea don't make chronological sense. Reframe it in a different thread.

Re: Woj: Rockets trying to move Thomas Robinson

I'd take him if it only cost 2nd round picks and cap space or one of the 1st round picks that will never come to fruition.

I don't think they will want #19 in 2013 because of the cap hold on first round picks.

But #31? Or #31 and #33? They can't do better than that if they're looking for 2nd-round picks this year.

I'd rather not trade meaningful assets to get him - but if we can somehow snag him on the cheap... sign me up.

Re: Woj: Rockets trying to move Thomas Robinson

I could have sworn he was much shorter
