Your dream offseason

I don't know why everyone wants to get rid of Z so badly. He's been with us through thick and thin. He deserves to stay on this team and he deserves another year as our starting center and one more year to play in the playoff's with us to prove his worth.

No doubt, the man choked, but he is definatly capable of playing better basketball. No one seemed to complain about him while we were beating Detroit. I saw a bunch of I LOVE Z posts around here, and all of a sudden everyone changes their mind.

Also, I doubt anyone would want to trade for Z while is is on the decline along with his 4 year contract.

Like it or not, Z is probably going to retire a Cavalier.

Z is a great center and has been with us since the start. But in NBA today having that taller, slower center isn't working as good. Plus he will only get worse since he is aging and will just get slower. I don't mind if we have him again next year but if we have a chance to get rid of him and that big contract then I think you have to do it. But I may be wrong.

As long as Ferry is the GM Z will stay in Cleveland they were teammates and friends for a while, it ain't happenin..

1.sign Lebron to an extension
2.sign Lebron to an extension
3.sign Lebron to an extension
4.sign Lebron to an extension
5.place Larry Hughes in a protective bubble to keep him safe
6.sign Lebron to an extension

I was about to post something like this, but you beat me to it. James is definitely more important than anything else we could even think of doing.

In the summer loving thread, someone mentioned that the Bulls are shopping Gordon. I'm not sure what we'd have to give up to get him, but the thought of starting Gordon, Hughes, and James at the 1, 2, and 3, makes me very happy.

Sign and Trade Gooden for a backup center/PF.
Trade 1st round pick and sasha for Gordon (I know it sucks to part with the pick, but we are close to breaking through to the finals).
Gordon, hughes, james, AV, Z: shooter/creator, 1st team defender, Savior, defender/general pisser-offer, post-presence.
Bench: Donny M, DJ, snow (i don't think we can even trade him), backup C/PF,

Keep in mind, we can't just flip the whole roster every year.
My dream is unrealistic, though, bc the bulls probably won't trade with us.

Other option: Get Jason Terry, but i don't think he wants to leave.

Ferry will figure it out. I have faith.

We are not allowed to trade our first round pick two consecutive years.

Jason Terry said, that he wants to play in Cleveland after a Post Game interview when the Cavs played Dallas..

but my dream like every offseason is get Rasheed Wallace

:puke:

S&T Drew Gooden for Chris Duhon and Darius Songaila.

Sign Nazr Mohammed to the full MLE.

Draft JP Batista.

Done.

i like guillermo diaz. i like douby. i like cedric simmons. i really like rondo except for his shot. i think farmar (having seen him first hand most of the year) is a very smart player, but his jumper is streaky, and he's not freakisly quick. he'll be a cerebral point, not a blow you away with skill point. collins seems similar but I'd take him if he fell. rondo is exceptionally fast, and very long, but not much of a shooter at this point. i'm tempted after seeing what snows lack of penetration/shooting could do to us, to reach on a guy who's listed a pg cause of height, but may actually be more of a 2 like diaz or douby. i think the second round will allow us to address a strong defensive inside presence, even if its just a stop gap til a better option opens up in future seasons. Some of you may enjoy this write up on Guillermo Diaz. The work ethic part definitely intrigued me more then I had been previously. If he continues to develop the handle, he may actually be adaptable to point:

i'm glad less people here are willing to drop the whole mle on flip. one dimensional guards are not commodities worth more then 3 to 3.5 million. we have to be very frugal in how we spend what little cap room we have left, because unfortunately, z and larry and taking up over 20 million when based on contributions this season, they deserved nowhere near that. the reality is that for all of drew's shortcomings (which are mainly in the realm of consistency) he does have the skillset to earn a 7 mil a year contract. i wish he wouldn't command that, but i think he will. he can post up. his midrange game is coming along much better then it did last year, and he's a very good rebounder. i do want to keep him, but we may have to suck it up that we are losing depth up front in hopes that it will be better for us down the line. 7 million can get you much more in the backcourt then it can in the frontcourt. i think we see what his market is, and then if a good sign and trade option is available we take it.

I think what Ferry attempted to do last year was extremely admirable. Unfortunately, the guys we have locked up are looking overpaid and older by the day. Snow's contract is an albatross. So is Z's now. Donyell's looks fair. Damon's is definitely on the high end for what he did most of this year. Varejao is coming up in just one more season. And Larry is not what we payed for thus far. He has the most to prove if you ask me. Next year, I hope he figures out how to get back the alleged midrange game he had. Because he doesn't get the respect LBJ does going to rim, and we need someone who can create their own shot or get to the line.

I'm very nervous. Last season's offseason excited me at the time, but we could be headed down a path where we signed all these long deals and its a slippery slope of not seeing the results we want until we are all looking forward to another summer with cash to spend like last summer's which unfortunately is year's away when Snow, Z, and Larry are off our payroll. Our young commodities are the only guys we may lose in the meantime. And I don't want two years to go by, and find out Varejao has played himself out of our price range, Drew, Flip, and Sasha are gone, and what we have left is LBJ, and four aging deteriorating players in Snow, Jones, Marshall, and Z, and one overpaid 2 guard with a history of injuries (Hughes).

and just to clear the record, terry didn't say he wants to play in cleveland, terry said he could see himself enjoying playing in cleveland. while i'm sure he would come here, what he was doing is what any contract year player does. leave his options open, and remind his team that he could depart if they don't pony up.

If we got JTerry I'd seriously streak through the streets unclothed..

my ideal offseason......

I would love to sign and trade Drew Gooden and Damon Jones for Nene and then sign a guy like Marcus Banks to the MLE and then draft Shannon Brown Cedric Simmons or Maurice Ager or a guy I am really falling in love with James White and with the LLE we resign Hendu or a guy like Tractor Traylor

Marcus Banks...Eric Snow
Larry Hughes...Draft Pick
LeBron James...Sasha...Ira
Anderson Varajao...Donyell Marshall
Nene...Zydrunas Ilgauskas...Alan Henderson

that starting 5 is young and fast and we can still play good defense....we could get up and down the court better while also playing quicker on defense and we have the Brazilian connection in the frontcourt who are both young and Nene is a good offensive threat and can d up as well as Andy crashing the boards and playing defense and then we bring Big Z off the bench in a more reduced role in order to increse his productivity against 2nd tier guys

more realistic option would be...

sign and trade Drew to Chicago for Chris Duhon or Drew and Sasha for Ben Gordon and then use the MLE to chase a guy like Nazr Mohammed

or

I think we would all love to add Jason Terry to this team so a sign nd trade of Drew and Damon Jones to Dallas for JET and even DJ MBenga would be amazing then we could split the MLE beteween Flip and a big man...this is the only scenario I can see where Flip stays...if we sign and trade Drew and filler for a PG and a big man then we can use some of the MLE on Flipper otherwise the Flipster is gone

Gooden and Nene are both FA's meaning you'd have to sign both players to do a sign and trade and you can't have two players being signed and Traded in the same deal..

I wannna see what W&G has to say and Maximus for that matter.....

I really just want to know what Danny Ferry is thinking

its killing me to wonder about what is going to happen

First off, the fans dreams of losing Z or Snow just aren't going to happen, and if by some stretch they did, we'd be getting back players with equally large contracts, and limited abilities. I just don't see them going anywhere.

Our biggest impact issue is getting Lebron signed, and that's a foregone conclusion, it's going to get done irregardless of what you'll hear on ESPN and in papers ...he's going to be a Cav through at a minimum through 2009-2010. I heard 4 years was what he would be willing to sign last I heard. We'll see when it all gets signed, sealed, and delivered.

The second biggest deal will be what we decide to do with Drew Gooden. One thing that the playoffs proved is that we have alot of good quality bench caliber talent and little starting caliber talent to support Lebron.... if Gooden can bring back any form of starting caliber player that can support Lebron, that will be great. Because Drew isn't growing as a player, he's pretty much developed all he's going to ever develop, and he's what he is ...he offers us our best rebounder and energy ...but, he's not a consustent and capable starter at power forward, especially poor when teamed with Z who is a liability in alot of ways, and needs someone who supports his noticeable weaknesses.

Our third decision lies in whether we give our MLE to Flip, or explore another option. I think we'll go another route, but, that's just my opinion.

We'll not answer all our needs by a long stretch, but we'll be more solid than this past season. We have to many high $$, longterm contracts tied up in less than what they are worth players ...(Z, Snow, Damon, Hughes)

We have three starting positions in place in Z, Hughes, and Lebron. We'll need a strong rebounder/defensive specialist at power forward, and just an average NBA point guard will improve us quite a bit, given that we had no NBA caliber true point guard even on our roster this year.

AV, Marshall, and Snow on the bench will be 3 capable guys there ...it'd be nice to get another solid 6th man coming of the bench to spell Lebron and Hughes.

Pulling off a trade where we pair a coule of our salaried players for a strong 6th would be a gift. ...

we'll see ...
