Kyrie Irving Trade Ideas

People are severely underrating Cousins talent in this thread. Ok, Kyrie can be elite, I agree. Cousins has MVP talent too.

If you want to say it's a headcase thing, that's fine, but I haven't seen anyone say that in this thread. I personally would prefer an elite center than an elite PG, but that's my preference. If it were at all possible (hugely doubtful) that we could get Cousins for Love I wouldn't even think twice. A lineup with LBJ at the 4 and Cousins at the 5? Literally gg.

But I highly doubt the Kings would do it. For KI? I personally still don't think they would do it, but it's in the same ballpark. Cousins is a God damned savage out there, best center in the game hands down. I love Kyrie, but Cousins is getting no respect in here... Not saying I would do it. I would have to think more about it. But I don't think it's open and shut...

I have a feeling this trade deadline is going to see some serious talent move between teams. With this next offseason promising record contracts, and with the Warriors looking unstoppable, there will be many teams taking big risks and making unprecedented moves.

I'm not saying the Cavs will be one of them, but we've already seen that Griffin is willing to do whatever it takes. If he feels like this roster has peaked (and I'm not saying that it has--just speculating about Griffin), then he might be willing to pull the trigger on either Love or Irving. Personally, I think Irving would have more value than Love, and the front office would look stupid for trading Love after giving up so much to get him.

Odds are, neither one is moved, but there could be teams offering us a shitload in return for Irving.

Nobody should underrate Boogie Cousins. The man is a fantastic talent that is playing out of his mind right now. That said, I have no idea why his name ever gets brought up in trades. We might think he's a headcase or doesn't like George Karl, whatever... no way they are even flirting with the idea of trading him right now. None.

I don't really think I would know if Kyrie would really be traded for anyone (or if the front office is interested in such a move), but Chris Paul sounds interesting.

Of course, Kyrie's offensive potential will always outweigh what Paul gives, at least when it comes to scoring. But we haven't had a real above average floor general (aside from LeBron) since Jeff McInnis, and an elite floor general since Andre Miller. Kyrie is good at passing to the open man, but it's not his complete game, except for the drive-and-kick.

Despite being an above average scorer who has developed a decent mid-range game, Paul's game is predicated on making shots for his teammates. And because LeBron trusts him as a friend and a fellow peer, would allow LeBron to play off-ball a lot more.

But like almost everyone else has said, the window is much smaller to win it all. I don't know if it's worth it or not. Kyrie could become good enough that losing LeBron in a couple years could be salvaged and wouldn't affect us heavily, but I think it's hard to replace all the skills that LeBron brings (which is almost everything). If there's a higher chance to win with Paul in the next three years than the chance to win with Irving when LeBron retires, I'd be open to the possibility.

P.S. If we won it all at least once, I'd probably be satisfied and wouldn't need a dynasty. There's no guarantee we'd become one in the future. The Pistons had their core for more than half a decade in the 2000s, but only won once to show for it. The Celtics only won once with Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. LeBron only had 2 titles in four years (despite having one of the most talented rosters). IMHO, we have no luxury or promise that we'll have a dynasty...

But whatever...

You can't have a dynasty if you have a revolving door of GMs and coaches. Dynasties are based on great systems and organizations. We just fired our chance at that until LBJ leaves.

However, I agree with you. Fuck dynasties. That's like taking $1 million dollars from your savings account and buying a shitload of lottery tickets. You'd be WAY better off just keeping the $1 million and investing it properly. I'll be perfectly happy with 1 championship from LeBron, rather than getting greedy and making decisions based on dynasty building...whatever the hell that even means.

That fact this thread even exists is a disgrace to this board.

For real I mean it is cool to think about in terms of what he could get us but it should not have its own thread. I remember we had this same damn thread last time he was not doing well but that was not coming off a major injury playing for a team with high expectations. You don't trade a 24 year old multi all-star player who could develop into your franchise one day. This kind of thing is what you get when you have a winning team and people lose their minds.

I'll trade Kyrie for Chris Paul in a heartbeat. Kyrie rather play for the globetrotters than to play team ball it's seems sometimes.

I live in LA and listen to sports radio a lot. Today heard a discussion about the Chris Paul for Kyrie thing from an LA sports point of view. They were into it for all the reasons people have mentioned. I think LA is kind of over Paul and would love a flashy, youthful guy like Kyrie. Kyrie would probably love it. Play with Blake, be hot shit, etc. Paul would love it because he'd get a real shot at a title. Kinda makes sense.

ALLLLLL of that said, the Kyrie trade idea seems bananas.

Chris Paul would almost guarantee we'd win 2-3 titles. He's such an upgrade over Kyrie at this point. On both ends of the floor. Kyrie can get his, but CP3 can get other guys theirs while still getting himself most of what Kyrie would get. His vision is light years ahead of Kyrie's. His ability to set up teammates is like night and day next to Kyrie. Obviously his defense is way better, as well.

But I don't know if I could pull the trigger, even if they added a pick to compensate for the age gap. We all know Kyrie has crazy potential. We know his shooting slump won't last.

Kyrie's rookie year was 47/40/87, compare that to Steph's insane 51/45/91 this year, and Kyrie's rookie year is really eye-popping. A rookie did that?! I mean we're talking about Steph's line, which might be the most impressive set of those numbers the NBA has ever seen, and Kyrie's rookie year was kind of close?! I'd just have a hard time trading Kyrie for anyone that isn't Steph.

Read Lloyd's column and search for Kyrie's post game comments. Cp3 looks more appealing despite his age. But KI can change if he wants. Not sure.
