DeAndre Liggins Waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No idea why Liggins was waived, but surely there was a better time to do this than shortly before tipoff of a road afternoon game... So much drama.

Bobby Marks explained (re: Beno Edrih) that, because 2 teams end their season Tuesday, players had to be waived by Sunday for all 30 teams to be eligible to make a claim. That possible financial issue explains why Liggins was let go in what seemed like all of a sudden.

So they did it for Liggins to get an opportunity to play somewhere else? Or am I completely misunderstanding the financial issue you are referring to?

Yes, my sense is that they released Liggins on Sunday specifically, given the small chance that another team would claim him from waivers, which would save the Cavs money this year -- a tiny bit for salary and a lot more for luxury tax.

If a team claims him, the new team would also have a team non-guaranteed option for 2017-2018, so in that sense Liggins would get an opportunity to play for another team. But I read it as more of a Cavs money-saving hail-mary, or perhaps a sign of concern about Thompson's health.

You have a lot more faith than I do, because I absolutely think Griffin is going to bring in one of those two.
yep, well I hope you are wrong on this one.
There are not a lot of options out there but there definitely are better options than those two players,so I will remain optimistic.

Well, dahntay being the pick up makes me feel better about Tristan. Would still like a reason DeAndre was waived for him since it's not an upgrade at all.

Only thing I can think is its a locker room deal?

you're really going to have to explain the logic -- if there is any, cuz I seriously doubt it -- behind signing a guy who hasn't played professionally all year long.

Did he win a contest to sit on the bench?

Really unjustifiable given the paucity of depth up front. adds to feeling Cavs are going to cock this up.

lmao LeBron just fucking Loves Dahntay haha, makes zero sense to waive an elite perimeter lockdown defender to bring his old ass in, but it also made zero sense to play Shump over Liggins.. oh well, welcome back Dahntay!

People are gonna say don't make a big deal about it because it doesn't matter yada yada. It's a stupid move. It's a straight up downgrade.

We've made basically all the wrong personnel decisions this year outside of Korver.

Even though most will say Korver wasn't a bad move, I feel like the most wouldn't say it was the right move. At neutral move is what I would call it, definitely a better fit 3 and D players could have been had.
