It - 8/10
I really enjoyed this one, and it gets bonus points for being one of the first non-terrible horror movies in what seems like years. I don't even remember the last good horror movie I've seen. Get Out is the only recent one that comes to mind, and then before that I guess Cabin in the Woods. It obviously wasn't a scene-for-scene adaptation, as a lot of things were changed, but overall I thought that it was a very well done movie, and they squeezed a lot of things from a very long (half) book into a two hour movie. I also liked the various nods to the book, like the Paul Bunyan statue.
The banter between the kids was great too. They nailed the Trashmouth character. Kid was hilarious. I thought they kind of rushed some subplot stuff, like their rock fight with the bullies and the one kid confronting his mom about giving him fake drugs. But overall, I was never bored during the movie.
