IT is not scary.

Don't get me wrong - if you are young for sure you will be scared but this IT was not a scary movie if you like that genre. The good part though is that I was not bored - the number of dick and STD jokes in that were pretty funny and enjoyable and i feel maybe it added a bit to much joy to that movie and lessened the fear element. Story was really good - something that more horror movies need. I would say this movie is a good watch but not theater worthy.

IT is not scary.

I love It. Big fan of the book and the miniseries and the new movie. But this is true across the board IMO.

It is just a really fucking cool story with horror elements to go along with themes of friendship, home, fear, and the supernatural. But since I'm not 6 years old watching Tim Curry anymore, it's not scary. But I had a lot of fun watching the movie and thought some of the "scares" were well executed enough for me to jump and get excited. I personally found it theater worthy.

Wind River ~ 9.5/10

I thought it was excellent. The reveal/climax was as intense and uncomfortable of a scene as I can remember watching. I don't think I blinked the last 35 minutes of that movie. Renner and Olsen were great. Olsen is gorgeous- damn.

Only one seeing American Assassin rn in this theater. Love Michael Keaton.

Never saw the original, but murder on the orient express was a fucking dope trailer.

Really enjoyed it too, although I thought Renner's character was a bit too one note. Like, his response to to everything was "I am a rugged outdoorsemen who has experienced everything, so I will stoically react to every situation". But even in that role, he was good.

And the tension of the 3rd act was just insane, too.

It - 8/10

I really enjoyed this one, and it gets bonus points for being one of the first non-terrible horror movies in what seems like years. I don't even remember the last good horror movie I've seen. Get Out is the only recent one that comes to mind, and then before that I guess Cabin in the Woods. It obviously wasn't a scene-for-scene adaptation, as a lot of things were changed, but overall I thought that it was a very well done movie, and they squeezed a lot of things from a very long (half) book into a two hour movie. I also liked the various nods to the book, like the Paul Bunyan statue.

The banter between the kids was great too. They nailed the Trashmouth character. Kid was hilarious. I thought they kind of rushed some subplot stuff, like their rock fight with the bullies and the one kid confronting his mom about giving him fake drugs. But overall, I was never bored during the movie.

IT: 6/10

Disappointing. Clown was way too theatrical. Much prefer the original's Pennywise, which was a more monstrous clown, rather than a monster with clown make-up. (Keep in mind I didn't read the book). Ritchie was hilarious, but they tried to include a scare every 5 minutes which diluted the thing... and the best moment was ruined in the trailer (slide show).

Mother!: 6/10

Also disappointing. I liked the first 75%. Not really sure how to articulate my thoughts just yet but left feeling unsatisfied. Didn't like the ending. First time I've felt that way after an Aronofsky film.

Clearly it's Jack.

But I didn't read the book so your opinions may be more aligned.

I read the book. I haven't watched the new movie.

I thought the old movie was ok.

Yeah, Jack read the book too if I recall. Maybe Pennywise in this new movie was more akin to the book character. It was just too over the top for me.

I agree the clown was a bit over the top, and I wasn't a huge fan of the clown's performance, but overall I thought it was a good horror movie that had some nice references to the book and was very well made.

I will say that I was fine with the clown having the strange accent, as it kind of solidified It as some sort of alien being that isn't a native English speaker, which was further hinted a later in the film when they show you the three lights. It kind of threw me off at first, but ultimately I can see the logic behind it.

As someone who read the books, I thought it was about as good an adaptation as we're likely to get. It wasn't perfect, and a lot of things had to be cut, and many others were changed or tweaked, but it was a very well-made film and was well-written as well. They did a good job of making the kids funny and likable, and most films and TV shows really struggle when there are kids involved because most kids can't act for shit. It definitely had a Stranger Things vibe to it, which was perfect for a film like It that takes place during that same time period.
