Don’t get the love for Williams. His defense is:
30th in yards allowed
24th In PPG
28th in passing yards per game
28th in rushing yards per game
19th in sacks (despite incessantly blitzing)
Yes, they’ve forced a lot of turnovers, but unfortunately that stat tends to not translate too well year-to-year.
Gregg just looks decent because he followed the worst HC in league history. We can't forget he's still bad at the job he was hired to do.
I get the stats arent great but he's slowed down some pretty good offenses despite the whole coaching mess to start the season. Held teams like the Saints, Falcons and Steelers pretty well in check, plus they've played some of the best teams in the AFC this year. San Diego and Kansas City light everyone up. Other than Garrett and Ward, who are the blue chippers on this defense who deliver every week? Larry O and Joe Schobert are solid, but then you have guys like Jaime Collins mailing in games, several DBs who are penalty machines, and the defense overall has zero depth. Gregg isnt perfect but he's getting quite a bit out of an average group if we're being realistic.
I think more important than the stats is the team is responding to him, and playing much harder than they did earlier this year. Could it be just a bounce from ridding the locker room of Hue's nonsense? Sure, but how can we know unless he comes back for another year?
If Arians wants someone else I wont be upset, but I like the vibe of this team since Hue was fired and Gregg deserves some of that credit.
