W&G: DEADLINE DAY IS HERE !

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There is only one thing upsetting me about not moving Wally. His 13.8 million will expire and Cavs will not be allowed to sign another player to replace him. They are too far over the cap.

Unless I am mistaken, they cannot sign anyone in free agency. Can they? Are they allowed to go over the hard cap and still pay the luxury or are they only allowed to go over the cap in signing current players or trading contracts?

They can resign him obviously, and I think they'll also have the MLE to work with - but no, we're not able to go after any real free agents this offseason. Can't be too upset about that though, 2010 is the one we're aiming for and we have plenty to work with there.

NOTE TO ALL: PLEASE DON'T FILL THE FORUM WITH TOPICS THAT COULD EASILY BE PLACED WITHIN PRE-EXISTING THREADS. THANK YOU.

I wonder if Ferry asked for an extension in time so he can work out a deal. You never know.

very possible silky, was thinking the same thing actually

but in the meantime this ferry bashing is really getting on my last nerves...i'm reading these comments in utter disbelief.

Sometimes the best move is no move at all. We have one of the best records in the NBA, and the best any Cavs team has ever had. I don't want to blow up this roster just to make a trade, that's ridiculous. Chemistry can not be overlooked. It took almost till the playoffs last year before the team started to look like a team.

I also don't want to part with JJ, there is a reason so many teams want him. Can you imagine the uproar if JJ get's traded and he ends up being another Amare or Bosh. Yeah he could be a dud, but do you think so many other GM's would be asking for him if they didn't see what Ferry saw and had the insight to draft.

We have a great team right now, I don't want to see it disassembled just to add a name.

Memphis: The Grizzlies get paid to keep Chris Mihm on their roster for two months. What a country.

Memphis might reap further savings if it can reach a buyout deal that allows Mihm to sign with a contender. Grade: B-plus

This really, really interest me when I read it. Interesting no? A 7 footer, maybe wanting to play for a contender. Now whicch team fits that bill? The Cavs need a backup C, and are a contender. Honestly I would prefer Mihm to JS if the buyouts were to happen, because signing Mihm long term is easier to do because of the age factor.

I think you're right.

We didn't just "settle." Ferry was aggressive and trying to get something done...but it takes 2 teams to trade, and we couldn't find one that we we're satisfied with. Ferry didn't want to give up JJ, because he's confident he's going to be good. I Believe in Danny Ferry.

I think both of you are wrong. :chuckles:

Seriously, JJ probably will be an all-star in a few years, but what difference would that make if the front offices reluctance to make a move to improve the team drives LBJ out the door. I know if I'm a young guy, perhaps the best NBA player in the world, why would I stay in Cleveland if they can't even listen to me? Ferry needed to make a move today, now we need a huge trade next year or else......

p.s.
I think some of us need to be more realistic and stop being such homers all the time. I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. If I was LBJ today, I'd be seriously considering leaving in 2010.

I simply don't have the time to give you a rundown on how everything happened over the course of the past five days or so .... but, when I get the opportunity to get home, and have the time to give you the information, I will.

What I will say is, hindsight is always 20/20. If Danny Ferry were to go back and know that things would play out the way they ultimately did, he would have made a few moves that were available earlier in the process. But, one can't do that.

I'll go into details later tonight. Don't worry. Of course I'm dissapointed that we weren't able to capaitalize on the expiring asset, but, it leaves us with more financial options I guess is one way to look at it moving forward.

I'll go into detail with things I couldn't bring up until after the process ran it's course. Things that will help explain Amare, Shaq, and all the other options.

W&G if Danny was unable to use Wally's expiring contract is there a specific reason why he let the TPE lapse too? I know that player exception wasn't worth but it was another asset that he could've used before the deadline.

I know you are very busy..thanks for all the time you spend explaining things to us. :)

Can I ask what he was waiting for? What great options id he think were going to be there for Wally?

All you need to know is that GOD was going to be a Cavalier until Ferry got wind of this Amare hupla.

W&G, thanks for keeping us informed as your time allows.

It sounds to me like Ferry could have went for an earlier trade and played it a little safer, but instead he swung for the fences hoping to steal top shelf talent in a salary dump. Unfortunately all the pitches were way off the plate, nothing to swing at.

I do hate to hear that, it is his job to have some foresight...

Oh I don't know..I think you have to go into the process prepared to strike early if feasable...waiting for a GM to get nervous and do a knee jerk response can always blow up in your face..Guess I would be in the mode of things bogging down late .. and pounce early..get who I wanted(if I could) and let the others play cat-n-mouse..things almost did bog down last year..and there were not a flood of trades happening before today..
I'll be very curious to see what we coulda had early..
