W&G: DEADLINE DAY IS HERE !

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
W&G, thanks for keeping us informed as your time allows.

It sounds to me like Ferry could have went for an earlier trade and played it a little safer, but instead he swung for the fences hoping to steal top shelf talent in a salary dump. Unfortunately all the pitches were way off the plate, nothing to swing at.

That's how I interpret it too. Oh well, looking at the other trades that have taken place, I don't think we miss being involved in any of them.

I really don't understand this at all... once we get some guys back, Szczerbiak does almost nothing for the team when the starters are playing playoff type minutes

and it's not like Szczerbiak's expiring helps us at all, even if we didn't resign AV, we're still $8 million or so over the salary cap next year, so we're not going to be able to resign anybody else.

yuck

Well all we can do now is hope that Phoenix and Milwaukee finish 9th in the playoff race with just one game behind the 8th place and that both owners regret not trading with us and end up losing millions for nothing and out of rage decide to kill their gm's. :chuckles:

Man I'd love that to happen (except for the last part of course).

Trading isn't as easy as people make it out to be. I took contract law & the amount of paper work / conditions that are put in place are ridiculous. Not everything is done through the phone. Ferry would have had to get the paper work ready & put in an offer & give a deadline for a response. If they reject, a counter comes in & the papers are needed to be faxed again.

I like the group of guys we have right now & a Championship is possible.

so now boston is reportedly in the lead to pick up mikki moore and joe smith? i doubt they get both; id take either one to be honest just to add some depth

Thunder just traded for Thabo Sefolosha.

They will apparently have to release a player (Joe Smith)? :chuckles:

im sorry ive been gone for 30 mins and i feel out of the loop, has there been an official statement about not making any trades yet?

I don't blame Danny for passing on a deal early in the process to wait until the deadline. Everyone knew there might be a lot of sellers, with the financial mess some teams are in. We had a valuable chip for any seller wanting to cut some payroll. Unfortunately, things didn't materialize the way we had all hoped. I am guessing we became a bit narrow minded on Shaq and Amar'e...pushing aside all other deals on the table until we had a firm answer with Phoenix. I guess time just ran out.

Again, all guesses up above. Will be waiting for the war room stories in the coming days.

Nice find! That's good news for sure!

No it's not.. it's terrible! It's been reported from multiple sources that Joe Smith would look to get picked up by the Celtics, not the Cavaliers! This news sucks.

This is why people (myself included) stressed about making a move if it presented itself. In my opinion, you never assume. I've said all along that if a move presents itself, which improves your team, you make it; regardless of what date is on the calender. Could other options become available down the line? Sure. But there's no guarantee. Ferry held the cards close to his chest for too long, and got burned.

Show me a direct quote where Joe says he's going to go to the Celtics. You won't find it anywhere. Only quote you'd find is him saying Cleveland is a possibility.

Seriously man, come on.

So a trade didn't happen huh? Meh. We'll just have to bang it out with what we got.

What exactly did we miss out on? Grabbing Brad and Salmons for Wally?

I think I'll live ...
