SJax and Z trade rumor

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not saying that Jackson is a superstar, but certainly you must agree that he, as an all-star, is better then the garbage we would have traded him for? And that an all-star on the cavs improves us, and therefore allows us to compete better? That is the point of collecting talent on a team isn't it, to win more? Sucking off lebron doesn't make you a good gm, just a sticky one.

wow. you're misguided on your opinion of Stephen Jackson.

I'm ok with us not getting Jackson. I was never sold either way. He's a solid player and probably helps us on the court this year but his attitude and contracts are HUGE negatives.

Well, I'll go out and say that I am GLAD that Ferry didn't up his offer to include Big Z. SJax is too inefficient to be a third option IMHO.. good luck to him in Charlotte.

BTW ppl, the time right before the trade deadline will be a fire-sale of talent with teams looking to dump salaries for the massive 2010 free agency. Ferry made the right move this time.

If Ferry had a deal on the table and the Warriors went the other way, then that is totally fine.

It's CHA's fault for giving up more than I thought GSW was going to get. I still think Cap'n is the best we could do as far as SG's go, but you never know.

Word out in GS is that Monta may be the next to go.

ESPN or the NY Times will now put out an article that LBJ is leaving because the Cavs failed to get Jackson.
Every media outlet will pick it up.

Nice Job Hollinger, you and ESPN suck

I smell a 'watch' thread!

Monta is tiny and can't shoot 3s... bad combo for a guard on our team. Running with Mo and Monta would be near impossible against a team like LA or Orlando. That being said, I still think we need another guy that can create for himself and others, which is why I wanted Jackson.

Hollinger is one of the most unbiased writers at ESPN....he generally writes what he sees and he knows the numbers better than almost anyone. His logic while not popular amongst us Cavs fans is not totally wrong here..the Cavs management has there hands tied at the moment, they have to balance doing the right thing to win this year with planning for a future where they don't know if their superstar is staying or going.

Well not exactly. He made us out as scared and uncertain. If that was true we would force trades like this one for Jack... But it is not, we don't or we do make trades because we construct team in a smart way, to win it all, not just to do something (SJax would be more of a sidestep than anything).

He actually WAS totally wrong, because he rewrote the entire article because he was so embarrassed at how dumb his first attempt was.

We will regret not getting him. He was the best SG on the market.
This is exactly what I'm worried about. I honestly do not think this team will beat Orlando or Boston, and that's even if Delonte has a turn around and becomes stable again. Off to pray that the Hornets continue to collapse and actually accept whatever trash we offer them for West. I guess there's still a decent chance of getting Troy Murphy, which wouldn't be that bad.

If the Cavs don't make some sort of move for a SG that will actually be a good contributor(who's even going to be available??) or a stretch PF....they're going to be in trouble come the playoffs.

The cavs have expiring contracts on Z ,West and effectively Wally. These become far more valuable as we get to the trade deadline. Do not panic there will be more and better trades out there for the Cavs.(can add Shaq as an expiring if you like also) We are only ten games in.

Look I agree that expiring contracts are good trade assets. However we can't put too much emphasis on them.

From the reports that have come out, only us and Charlotte wanted Stephen Jackson. We are the only two teams that put together a package to acquire him and Bobcats won.

When other guys come into play, the market will be much bigger then just us and Charlotte.

If we couldn't land a disgruntled Jackson what are the chances we get someone else that becomes available if other teams are interested as well.

All of us here, including myself, sometimes act like expiring contracts are the greatest thing. Other teams want some talent in return. We're not going to be able to rip teams off all the time. It has become quite clear to me that Ferry is always trying to do that. He wants deals like the one that got us Mo Williams.

If you are in hopes of that then you will lose out sometimes (as in the case with Jackson).

If talent is out on the market as we approach the deadline, who is going to stop Miami (a lot of exprings available and some young talent), Chicago (same as Miami), etc. from making better deals then us.

Alot of people here act like if certain teams are going to blow it up and dump salary we will be the only ones out there to pounce on the deal.

Miami is hoping to land another max free agent along with Wade, and the Bulls are going to be looking to dump someone so that they can land Wade themselves. I can't see the Bulls looking to land anyone of significance. The Heat I suppose could try to land someone in order to keep Wade around.

I just hope Ferry doesn't wait around until the final few hours like it seems like he did this year, even with deals on the table that would have significantly improved our team in early February/late January.

If the first ten games are any indication of where teams are heading, right now you have these teams that have bad records and high payrolls (top 15 payrolls):

Jazz (2nd highest payroll?!)
Wizards
Hornets
Bobcats (may have changed after Jackson trade though)

In addition, the Clips and Grizz always seem to be looking to dump salary.

I'm not going to buy that stuff. I know Miami wants to add a max free agent with Wade but if the opportunity presents itself to get talent in a trade, Pat Riley will be all over it.

Besides, supposedly Charlotte didn't want to add more salary. They are losing money like crazy. Yet that didn't stop them from taking on Jackson's longer deal (I believe an addiition $21 million).

If Miami has a chance to get someone they will do it and so will Chicago.

He has two years left i believe? That would be two productive years, and I believe he could be MUCH more productive then the crazy guy or the old and worthless guy. I never expect ferry to do execute non salary dump trades anyway since he has shown he doesn't have the ability to do that, but still it would be nice to pick up some talent.

Hopefully I'm wrong and we pick up two all stars at the deadline, considering we could have picked up one now for scraps and one later for z. We'll see.
