2010 Draft Talk

Only two #1 picks have won titles with teams that drafted them since 1980.

It's not always about impressing LeBron. We needed a young Center tonight and we throughly failed to get one.

Apparently we are doomed to having aged big men until the end of time.
 
It would be funny if LeBron knew all along what he was going to do and just re-signs with the cavs. Then we will have all these free agents requesting sign and trades to cleveland. That would be a huge "fuck you" to all these teams creating cap space.
 
At a time when people are as pissed off at LeBron as ever, they still want every move the Cavs make to be made in the interest of keeping him. Yes, drafting Solomon Alabi or anyone else in the 2nd round won't help keep LeBron, but it'll help make the team improve. Imagine if LeBron had a longterm contract with the Cavs. Would we still be saying "It's ok, draft picks aren't necessary because we have LeBron under contract"? Since we have no cap space, we have to use the draft to make the team better, whether or not LeBron stays.
 
IMO the Cavs FO should probably begin planning how to snag some talent or picks or TPEs from the Bulls, Heat, or Knicks thru LBJ's sign and trade (is it possible to sign and trade LBJ and receive just picks and TPE which can be used during 2011 free agency?). And they should begin scouting for upcoming rookies next year who could be the new franchise star. But even with cap space next year, guys like Melo might not go to Cleveland, so the Cavs' only hope is high draft picks. The consolation prize of Cleveland is that it had 2 consecutive 60 win seasons. Hopefully the next time the Cavs find some great talent, the FO would finally learn how to correctly build a young championship team.

No, July 1st is really not a long way away. People have been saying that for weeks while we sit idly....but now it's a week from today (well, yesterday). We still don't have a coach. We didn't address the HUGE hole at center despite numerous options being available in the draft. We didn't address the back court making our current back court players more expendable via trade. Hell, outside of the Bosh article by Ford (I think?), we haven't even been linked to anyone.

I really hope so. None of that Paxson bullshit and blown picks and transactions. There's a lot of pressure in Cleveland to build well through the draft because it's not a desired free agent destination, and hopefully the FO learns how to stock draft picks and make intelligent choices and not draft stiffs like Luke Jackson or trade lottery picks for Jiri Welsch.
 
I would imagine they have some kind of deal set up for West. It would be one of the only reasons he wasn't traded tonight. He has to be a part of a bigger deal.

To be honest, how many young centers drafted outside of the top 20 go on to do shit? Last year, the only two drafted outside of 20 were B.J. Mullens and Goran Suton. The year before? Kosta Koufos, Nikola Pekovic, DeAndre Jordan, Omer Asik, Ante Tomic, DeVon Hardin, Sasha Kaun, and Semih Erden. What have any of those guys done in the league after two years?

And I remember everyone jerking off after DeAndre Jordan dropped in the draft, begging for the Cavaliers to snatch him in the second round (some were even hoping for him to be drafted #19). Don't get me wrong, it's important for the Cavs to find a young center. And they tried that tonight, exploring trades for Cole Aldrich. But teams don't deal lotto picks for straight cash and that's the only place you're likely to find a good, young center, ready to contribute.

Just because fans were high on Alabi and Whiteside doesn't mean management was. And perhaps for good reason. Both players could very easily be the next flash in the pan center prospect.

Chris Grant's performance in this draft was worse then Mark Walberg's performance in The Happening.

Still don't understand the complaints.. This was an extremely weak draft and the center everyone wanted weighs 220 pounds, with limited offensive skill, who played against the C-USA..
