1 meal a day | only lost 3 lbs in the 2 weeks | Help

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well a lot medical case studies are showing the importance of not eating too often during the day and giving your body a break between meals . And yes I do think you can get a high amount of protein in two quality meals.
I need 200-250 grams of protein a day, I can't get that in 2 meals. I don't eat after 5 pm and don't wake up till 5 am. So that's my fasting. Then in the morning I have a cup of coffee, wait an hour to wake up and hit the gym. So I guess I am doing it.

You only need to go 1:1 on grams of protein and pounds if you're worried about maintaining muscle while trying to lose weight. If you're just trying to lose, I'd still stick to high protein foods but make sure you're in a calorie deficit.

I'm about to be 49, and the only way I've lost weight since I turned 40 has been to count calories and to exercise. In 2020 I put on 20lbs. In 2021, I lost 25lbs in about 3.5 months. I wasn't looking to work out a shit ton, so most of my exercise was walking and elliptical. Otherwise, it was diet, i.e., a caloric deficit of about 400 calories a day.

But by this summer I'd gained back a lot of the weight I'd lost (I was at 264lbs and I'm only 6 foot) so I'm back at it. I'm down 8.5 lbs in a month...counting calories and exercising. I finally got a membership to a local pool and I'm doing laps again. When I was doing laps twice a week back in 2008-2010, I was in the best shape I'd been in since college. I highly recommend swimming for 40+ yr olds b/c of the low impact. It's also a hell of a lot more fun than running. I find it easy to burn 500 calories and there's something calming about it.

That's just my experience, fwiw. I will say it gets harder as you get older, that's the main thing I've learned. I saw Springsteen in 2016 (having seen him many times prior) and finally noticed that he was getting old. But the only reason I noticed it was because his body language was very laid back to start the show. Why? Because he played a 3.5 hour show. At 67 years old. How? Because he's in excellent shape. He can afford all the trainers in the world, sure, but I have no doubt he puts more time into his physical health now than he did even when he bulked up around the time of Born in the USA.

Yes 12 hours is fasting for part of the day . So you are doing it daily .

I'm 6'1 and dropped from 195 to 174 in like 2 months to begin this year, but I've been completely stuck at 174 for a good while now.

Started adding weight training 3x weekly so hoping it is some newbie gains?

I'm supposed to go on a low-fat diet to get down my cholesterol and such.

The Dr. didn't give me anything specific to follow yet. Any suggestions on the easiest way to incorporate a low-fat diet into my regular eating routine?

Just looking to see if anyone has good resources on meal plans or substitute foods and such saved and could share.

Avoid processed foods completely. They're usually the ones that have the bad sat fats that juice your cholesterol. I'd also look to avoid sugars and excessive carbs.

If you like/can deal with oatmeal and aren't concerned with carbs it's a good one.

Is this like real oatmeal and not the kind in the packets that's maple sugar and cinnamon apple flavored?

I used to always do the yogurt with nothing added, then added some oatmeal with nothing added then freshly cut fruit... a little bit of raw honey to taste...

I'm not sure, I haven't bought that stuff in a longtime. However, there are a lot of oatmeal options and I assume some of the pre-flavored ones are much better than the standard Quaker/store brand options in regards to ingredients/calories etc.

I myself am not a big man of the steel cut oats, too chewy for me and stick to the regular old Quaker rolled oats or Bob's Red Mill if on sale. I eat oatmeal to eat it, not because I particularly like it but...

Regular bowl of oats - using water not mammal milk and a banana on side.... I am dieting/not eating like crazy but this has pretty much been my breakfast when I eat one.

Regular bowl of oats - using water, mix in a few craisins, almonds (break these into pieces to spread it out) and a dash of cinnamon.... Honey makes this one good, I'd say tasty in fact... Honey or maple syrup work with oatmeal really well, if your not crushing on carbs/calories.

I'm doing quite well, was 205 on Memorial Day, now 195. Lots of water, massive calorie cutting/fasting. Honestly not much exercise.
I'm still crushing it, most sugar eliminated. I'm fasting/starving quite frankly, but it's working and we'll see how things look a year from now.

I'm at 178 as of today, another 8ish to go.
